FAME Consultation Service - Direct Observational Teaching

Did you know...the Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators facilitates teaching observations to help both mentors and mentees improve their practice? FAME can coordinate direct observational teaching sessions to help faculty improve their their teaching skills.

If you would like to request a Direct Observational Teaching session, please use the machform on the FAME website. Have questions about the DOT program? Contact FAME@northwestern.edu and we can discuss the process with you.

ACGME Competencies in Assessment Toolkit

The ACGME created a faculty development program, Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment: A Course to Help Achieve the Goals of Competency-based Medical Education.

This toolkit provides faculty development materials to help physician faculty members practice skills in direct observation and feedback. The methodology outlined in this toolkit can improve the quality and frequency of direct observation and the effectiveness of feedback to learners after direct observation.

New IRB Training Requirements

Effective Sept. 1, the Northwestern IRB Office's CITI training requirement will move to a single-track course designed for all human researchers who have or will obtain a Northwestern NetID. No immediate action is needed in relation to this update. At time of mandated basic or refresher training, all biomedical and social behavioral researchers will enroll in the same "Human Research Protections (IRB)" course in CITI. Additionally, there is no longer any need to email training records to IRB Training as researchers must now use automated CITI and eIRB+ affiliation and integration systems for records management (exceptions: Lurie Children's Hospital and NMHC). Refer to the human research protections training webpage for detailed information and updates. Email the IRB office with any questions.
