The Summer Medical Institute 2022
Partnering with the EHC to Reach our North Philadlephia Community
That’s a wrap on the 31st Annual Summer Medical Institute (SMI)! SMI is a joint project of Esperanza Health Center and Medical Campus Outreach of Philadelphia. SMI provides medical students with the opportunity to serve the North Philadelphia community through neighborhood medical ministry and allows them to integrate faith and career by working alongside Christian health care professionals.

During three weeks each summer, the SMI program brings door-to-door health screens and other health information to our North Philadelphia neighborhoods. This year's program included 15 healthcare students who helped to provide hundreds of health screens for blood pressure, diabetes risk, diabetic foot neuropathy and obesity and educational information about diabetes, hypertension, HIV and nutrition. They provided all these resources while also sharing the love of Christ through conversation and prayer with neighbors.
SUMMER POP-UP PARK
Hosted by Esperanza Health Center & Summer Medical Institute!
Earlier this month, Esperanza Health Center and the Summer Medical Institute hosted a pop-up park at the Kensington Cooridor Trust Garden. During the event, community members and neighbors had the opportuity to receive free blood pressure screenings and nutrition education from this year's SMI cohort, and enjoyed an afternoon of music, snacks and games for children.

During the month of August, our Community Health and Wellness team is parterning with The Simple Way to host Pop-up parks and the "EsperanzaFresh" produce market every Thursday from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Esperanza's lot at H & Westmoreland Streets. There will be music, activites for children, and free fresh produce for distribution!
CAREER FAIR AT K&A
Hosted by Esperanza Health Center & Philadelphia Futures
Our Community Health and Wellness Team hosted a Career Fair in partnership with Philadelphia Futures on July 19, 2022. During the event, students had the opportunity to connect with Esperanza employees from different departments to learn more about the many career options available in health care and beyond! The day was an amazing success, with one student claiming it to be the BEST career day event they had ever been to!
