A Fond Farewell to
Richard E. Rainwater
International Kappa Sigma Man of the Year 1996

June 15, 1944  - September 27, 2015

Billionaire fund manager and philanthropist Richard Rainwater '63 passed away September 27 at his home in Fort Worth following a long battle with a rare neurological disease, according to a statement released by the Rainwater Charitable Foundation.

He is the second International Kappa Sigma Man of the Year the Tau Chapter has lost this month.

Rainwater's career achievements included orchestrating billionaire investor Sid Bass' acquisition of a major stake in the Walt Disney Co. and partnering with future President George W. Bush in 1989 to purchase the Texas Rangers baseball team, according to the Associated Press.

He created the Rainwater Charitable Foundation in 1991, with a focus on early childhood education and school leadership development.  After being diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in 2009, he expanded the focus of the Foundation to include PSP medical research.

Rainwater grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in mathematics. He earned an MBA from Stanford Business School.

He is survived by his wife, Darla Moore, sons Todd Rainwater, Matthew Rainwater, daughter Courtney Rainwater, and brother Walter Rainwater.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 2, at 11 A.M., at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway Avenue, in Fort Worth.
