Thanks to YOU, we served 40 people this month, including:

7 Individuals

11 Families

20 Children

Guests ranged in age from 7 months to 54 years old

People usually talk about love during the month of February, but we want to thank you for all of the love you share with our guests all year round. You truly make a difference in their lives.

Take a look at what you made possible this month:

A family moved from Easton's Promise into transitional housing!

Our mom, dad, and two kids will be moving to St. Michaels yesterday. This is a brand new partnership for TIS, and the first time we have expanded our transitional housing program outside of Easton.

We now have fifteen off-site transitional apartments! We are very appreciative of our transitional housing partners, which include the Housing Commission of Talbot County and several private landlords.

A single individual from Evelyn's Place moved directly from the shelter into their own housing!

One of the dads at Easton's Promise started a new job!

A single woman from Evelyn's Place was accepted into Maryland's DORS program! Learn more about the DORS Program in our "Did You Know" section below.

We are also very proud of one of our employees, who has been working towards homeownership through the Habitat for Humanity Program. As part of the program, participants must put in a certain number of hours of sweat equity into their home - our employee's sweat equity time starts this week!

Thank you for helping to make all of the above possible. You are changing lives every single day!

This month, our Case Manager, DeWayne, began leading Money Management class for the single men and women at Evelyn's Place. During their weekly sessions, they will learn the basics of budgeting, identifying their financial priorities, setting goals, and planning to achieve those goals.

The families at Easton's Promise have continued their weekly Parenting Workshop with the Department of Social Services, as well as Character Counts for Adults, which is facilitated by TIS Board Member, Sandra Hack. They will also be starting Money Management next month.

These and other life skills classes are an integral part of the S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, Success), and help to prepare guests for a successful and sustainable transition back to independence.

These learning opportunities are incredibly impactful for our guests, and are made possible by your generous support. Thank you!

As was mentioned above, one of the guests from Evelyn's Place was recently accepted into the Maryland DORS Program. DORS stands for Division of Rehabilitation Services. They assist people with physical, emotional, intellectual, developmental, sensory and learning disabilities to find and keep work. DORS provides career assessment and counseling, assistive technology, job training, higher education and job placement. This is a very exciting development for our guest, and a big step forward in building her future.

Case Managers at Talbot Interfaith Shelter are trained to assist our guests in identifying, seeking out, and obtaining any services necessary to help them get back on their feet and stay there. DORS is a wonderful example of a very specialized service that someone may not even learn about, let alone access, without guidance. That is why we take great care to provide rigorous, personalized case management - so that each guest has what he or she needs to achieve Success!

Spotlight on Team TIS!

It takes hundreds of incredible people to keep our programs running smoothly and make sure our guests have everything they need (including lots of love) to move forward on their journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. We would like to thank the congregation at St. Marks United Methodist Church for making an incredibly generous gift in support of our mission. When asked what prompted the donation, Pastor Ed said they wanted to help TIS "to glorify God and help the community." We are humbled and so very grateful!

TIS Executive Director Julie Lowe is overjoyed by this wonderful act of generosity from St. Marks, sharing, "This munificent gift will enable TIS to expand services and to give the utmost assistance to our guests."

Special thanks to the Talbot County Garden Club for dropping off a collection of absolutely beautiful flowers to our shelters for Valentine's Day. They really brightened our homes, and our guests were certainly feeling the love. We are so fortunate to exist in such a kind and thoughtful community!

Queenstown Bank Fire & Ice Festival

We were honored to be a very special part of the Chesapeake Fire & Ice Festival this year! Our Business Partners at Queenstown Bank commissioned a giant piggy bank made of ice, and the community filled it with donations in support of our mission! Between community donations and a generous gift from the bank, more than $800 was raised for TIS over the course of the weekend!

We are very excited to announce that tickets will be going on sale VERY SOON for our 7th Annual Lip Sync Battle fundraiser, which will take place on Saturday, April 29th at the Waterfowl Building in Easton. This is a can't-miss event - it is truly the most joyous night of the year. Keep an eye on your email in the coming days so that you can be one of the first to snag your seats! In the meantime, head on over to our website to meet this year's teams for both our live and video competitions. You can vote for your favorite to win by making a donation on their behalf anytime between now and the end of our live show on April 29th. Let the battle commence!
