Dear friends in our Episcopal Diocese of Hawai’i,
We, the Standing Committee of the Diocese, are writing to let you know that Bishop Bob
Fitzpatrick has asked us to serve as the Nominating Committee for the elections that are coming up at our Diocesan Convention on Saturday, October 12. We have agreed.
We would like to take this opportunity to let you know about our process. On our diocesan
website, you will find that there are vacancies in several areas of our governing bodies: the Diocesan Council, which is the “board of directors” of our diocese (4), the Standing Committee, which serves as Council to the Bishop and as the main authority of the diocese when there is no bishop (2), the Cathedral Chapter, which is the governing body for our Cathedral (2), and the position of Secretary to the Convention (1).*
We will do our best to make sure there is at least one strong, qualified candidate for each
position. We currently are reaching out to people we think would be interested and qualified; we are eager for your participation in this work. You can find out more about what these governing bodies do and who is eligible to run for vacant offices at these two links on our diocesan website:
If you are interested in running for one of these positions or know someone who would be a strong candidate, you should complete the nomination form, below, by Wednesday, August 28. If you choose to nominate someone other than yourself, please ask that person’s permission before submitting this form:

Should there be more than one person interested in a position, please know that all of the
candidates will be presented on the ballot at the Convention. Please note that, if a person is not nominated by August 28, they still may be nominated, with their permission, from the floor on the day of Convention.
If you have questions, please reach out to one of us. We ask you to join us in praying for these governing bodies of our diocese and the people who will be considering standing for election.
In Christ,
The members of the Standing Committee
