Pastor's Update

Hi Parkway People,

Check out the information below on the big, upcoming Sunday and other ways you can be plugged into the work we're doing together.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Pastor Justin

One Service + Brunch - This Sunday (May 19th)

Between celebrating our Confirmation Class and marking the Holy Day of Pentecost, this Sunday is shaping up to be an exciting day with much to celebrate at Parkway!

We'll have a single service starting at 9am.

After the service we will gather in the Ministry Center for a Potluck Brunch. Bring a brunchy dish to share!

The service will begin with a Baptism in the Parkway Garden's pool. You can meet us there to celebrate the baptism in person, or make your way into the Worship Center as usual – the Baptism will be livestreamed to the Worship Center screen.

We will welcome the Confirmation class into full membership at Parkway during the service. While membership at a church can feel like a thing of the past – at Parkway we regard membership as claiming investment and connection in this community of people who follow Jesus together. Members of Parkway have a vote in many major decisions of the church, including church leadership, budgets, and other information at our yearly Charge Conference (Annual business meeting).

In addition to the Confirmation class, several other families are choosing this day to unite in membership with Parkway – claiming that this is the community they want to follow Jesus with. If your family is interested in also uniting in membership with Parkway, feel free to reach out to me at justin@parkwayumc.org.

Prison Ministry

In my last Pastor's Update, I mentioned that Parkway has a history of ministry at the nearby Jester Prison Unit, but that prison ministry has not been active recently. Shari Nutter recently started working in the Jester Unit's Prison Fellowship Academy, a faith-based program that offers a wide range of programs, such as Bible studies, public speaking, tutoring, and other programs aimed at helping incarcerated men in relationships with their children and families.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can get plugged into the Prison Fellowship Academy or other programs, please reach out to Shari Nutter at snutter@comcast.net.

VBS Set-up

Thanks to all who have already signed up as volunteers and dropped off snacks for VBS. There are always so many details and moving parts to making VBS a huge success.

One way we are trying to give ourselves more breathing room this year is by setting aside two times dedicated simply to setting up VBS rooms across the Parkway campus.

Those two dates/times are:

  • Thursday, May30th at 9am. Becky has arranged childcare for any parents that are otherwise available to help. If you're able to help, email Becky at rbetz@parkwayumc.org.

  • Sunday, June 2nd after the second service. Lunch is provided. This will be crunch time – the day before VBS kicks off! No need to sign up, just show up!

Schlitterbahn

Time is running out to sign up your 4th - 12th grader for May's 45ers + Parkway Student Ministry event at Schlitterbahn in Galveston. You can sign up your student and get more information by clicking HERE.

Still have questions? Reach out to Kat Britton at kbritton@parkwayumc.org.

Men's Ministry Trivia

Parkway Men's Ministry will meet for a trivia night at The Flying Saucer in Sugar Land Town Center on Tuesday, May 21st at 6.30pm. This is a great chance for the men of Parkway to get to know each other, build relationships, and plan out future Men's Ministry.

Board Meeting

One last final reminder – the Parkway Board will meet this Monday, May 20th at 7pm in the Ministry Center for a regular business meeting. These meetings are always open to anyone who is interested in the behind the scenes work of making Parkway possible.
