A Big Night to Dash for Cash

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, October 7, 2023) Twelve races were contested at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie highlighted by a trio of stakes named after the outstanding Quarter Horse, Dash for Cash.





$49,910 Dash for Cash Juvenile


A field of ten took to the track for the $49,910 Dash for Cash Juvenile. Aj Gold Heart, a two-year-old sorrel filly (Apollitical Jess - Premier Ethics by Ethics Aside) broke sharply and led throughout the 400 yard race finishing a neck ahead of the post time favorite, Classy Looking Chick. Aj Gold Heart covered the ground in :19.955.


Jacob Enriquez was in the saddle for trainer Ricardo G. Armendaris, Jr. The win was the third victory in seven starts for the filly.


After the race owner Franky A Busani expressed his gratitude to the trainer of Aj Gold Heart. "I want to thank Rick. He's been a great trainer. He went out to Oklahoma for the sale and picked her out, all I did was pay for it. That's it. Hats off to Rick Armendariz, he's the one that's getting after it. We knew we had a great shot tonight. We definitely thought we could win."


Aj Gold Heart returned $12.00 on a winning $2 win wager.

$176,000 Dash for Cash Derby (G2)


The Grade 2, $176,000 Dash for Cash Derby featured nine three-year-olds in the 440 yard dash. Sent to post as the 2 to 1 favorite, Konnan Cartel (Five Bar Cartel - Jet Black Chiraq by Jet Black Patriot) held off a late charge by Market Analysis to get the graded stakes win by a nose, stopping the clock at :21.643.


Winning jockey Victor Urieta, Jr. spoke about Konnan Cartel's performance, "He broke very, very good. He was a little tired in the trials going 440 yards for the first time and this time he was much better. It was close tonight, but we got the win."


Trainer Juan Diaz, Jr. said after the win, "I'm Excited. That was a close one." he continued, "We like the way he came out of the trial and we thought we had a good shot with him."


Dania Castellanos owns the Louisiana-bred geld who improved his record to seven wins from fourteen starts.

$449,190 Dash for Cash Futurity (G2)


After running in fifth position early on, Rj Having Fun kicked it into gear under a determined ride by Bryan Candanosa to get the victory by a head over Hock It Is in the $449,190 Dash for Cash Futurity.


"He had a clean trip, but didn't break as well as I expected him to. I'm just thankful for the trainer Toby [Keeton], my family who supports me and everybody. Thank God for the opportunities and I'm very grateful." Candanosa continued "It was a pick-up mount. So God is good."


Trainer Toby Keeton spoke about Rj Having Fun after the big win, "The horse came back really good after the trials. He's not the fastest sucker in the world, but he'll make all of them honest...every trip."


The winner's share added $179,676 to the grey gelding's lifetime earnings. Rj Having Fun is owned is owned by Josefina Guzman and Corinna Sosa.


A $2 winning mutuel ticket returned $7.60 to the winning bettors.

Total handle for the 12 race card was $750,546 and the races attracted 3,096 fans for the Saturday night card.


Live racing will resume Thursday, October 12 with a first race post time at 6:05 p.m.
