Your Support Transforms Lives

Every story we hear from our Eden I&R/211 Alameda County staff fills our team with gratitude. Each story reminds us that generosity from our supporters isn't just a donation; it's a key that unlocks change and transforms lives.

One recent example of this was when our 211 Community Resource Specialists and our AIDS Housing Information Project's Housing Coordinator worked together to find a client a place to call home. Read their success story here.

Your support makes these transformations possible. We invite you to donate here to continue our mission of connecting people with resources. Thank you for your ongoing partnership!

Find Cooling Centers

When the weather gets extremely hot, cooling centers may be opened in Alameda County. Cities may identify facilities such as senior centers, community centers, or libraries with air conditioning, where the public may cool down during a heat wave. Some may also provide other resources for people who are experiencing homelessness or are unsheltered.

You can find open cooling centers near you by calling 211 or visiting acgov.org/sustain/what/resilience/heat.htm. For more tips on staying safe in extreme heat, visit heatreadyca.com.

Celebrating Pride Month

LGBTQ Pride Month is a commemoration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community that is part celebration and part protest.

LGBTQ Pride Month traces its roots back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, which started on June 28, 1969. The first Pride marches began the following year, on June 28, 1970, to commemorate the multiday riots, and these one-day celebrations eventually evolved into a whole month of LGBTQ pride. To celebrate this important month, check out the community events below.

Happy Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is honored every June 19th and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, found out they had been freed — after the end of the Civil War and two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

You can still join many events and celebrations happening throughout Alameda County.

Caller Stories

An Oakland woman called 211 and seemed to be experiencing a mental health crisis. She was unhoused and worried because she was running out of resources. Fortunately, 211 staff were able to transfer her to the Friendship Line suicide prevention crisis hotline and provide several referrals, including the Homeless Action Center and information on public benefits assistance.
