Dear friends,
Back in January, I met with 22 of the top producers in the Willamette Valley who unquestionably released some of the finest wines they have ever made.
I am elated to offer you the minuscule amount of one of the most profound wines I secured!
The Maresh Vineyard is both the Montrachet + Clos de Beze Grand Cru of Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley. Planted by Jim Maresh's grandparents in 1970, it is one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in the United States at 54 years of age. Farmed organically from day one, these old, low-yielding vines produce a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay elixir that will thrill your senses.

Three Limited Arterberry Maresh Wines Remaining:
2022 Arterberry Maresh "Maresh Vineyard" Dundee Hills Chardonnay
98 Points, James Suckling:
"Full and broad with so much depth and so many layers. Polished, pristine and super refined, with firm phenolic tension and mineral verve. Lovely texture and outstanding balance. It lasts for minutes."
96 Points, RP's Wine Advocate
"...despite the wine's modest 12% alcohol, it's incredibly powerful and offers unparalleled concentration. The palate is just as luxurious, its satiny, mouth-coating flavors foiled by electric, linear acidity—a feature that sets it apart from the ripe, tropical versions sometimes found in California. Just 100 cases were made. Drink 2025-2040."
12 Bottles left - $79.97
2018 Arterberry Maresh "Maresh Vineyard" Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
95+ Points, RP's Wine Advocate:
"...an incredible wine. It opens slowly to an arresting perfume... The palate is elegant, supple and juicy, with an expansive fan of layered, spicy flavors and a very long finish. It's hard to resist now..."

13 Tasting Notes
By Erin Brooks

“Although just 6,000 cases of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are made annually, this family-run estate epitomizes the best of what Willamette Valley has to offer and is synonymous with Oregon’s old-vine heritage. The wines are concentrated yet elegant, fruity yet flinty and are some of the most impressive wines I’ve tried anywhere—not just in the US.” —Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
This is the best-kept-secret in elite Oregon Pinot, quietly made for three generations by the Maresh family. This family is solely responsible for shaping the region's wine history with their pioneering vineyard, among the oldest on the entire West Coast.
Today, we pay honor to James "Jim" Maresh, Sr., who left us in his Dundee home back in March of 2021. He was one month shy of his 95th birthday.
His legacy is carried on, extraordinarily well, through the family's third-generation winemaker Jim Maresh Jr. with the profound wine offered today.
13% alcohol + organic farming + minuscule production + oldest, most sought-after, and acclaimed fruit + a beyond-reasonable prices of $59.97 to $79.97 = too good to be true. Believe it.
Hurry and grab your share of these exquisite yet affordable cult wines while we have these last bottles!
Cheers,
—James tran

2022 Arterberry Maresh 'Maresh Vineyard' Dundee Hills Chardonnay
Willamette Valley, Oregon
98 Points - James Suckling:
“Rich golden color with beautiful notes of mangoes, candied lemons, oranges, lots of spices, hits of toffee, peach pit, Sichuan pepper and umami, with a white truffle fragrance. Full and broad with so much depth and so many layers. Polished, pristine and super refined, with firm phenolic tension and mineral verve. Lovely texture and outstanding balance. It lasts for minutes. Drink or hold." (May 2024)
96 Points - Robert Parker's WA:
"The 2022 growing season in the Willamette Valley was particularly long and cool, and growers worried about achieving full ripeness. Luckily, there was record-breaking heat in October, which provided the final push needed for ripening. “The 2022 vintage was perfect for this block simply because it seemed like it would never ripen,” second-generation winemaker Jim Maresh says of the Wente clone vines planted in 1983 at his family's Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills. The vines sit at the top of a hill at around 750 feet on an east-facing slope, where they receive morning rather than afternoon sun. Grapes were finally harvested on October 26, and despite the wine's modest 12% alcohol, it's incredibly powerful and offers unparalleled concentration. Matured in 50% new French oak, the 2022 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard features aromatics that shift continually in the glass. Brioche, hazelnut and matchstick complement a core of peach cobbler and honey-drizzled crème fraîche. The palate is just as luxurious, its satiny, mouth-coating flavors foiled by electric, linear acidity—a feature that sets it apart from the ripe, tropical versions sometimes found in California. Just 100 cases were made. Drink 2025-2040."

2018 Arterberry Maresh 'Maresh Vineyard' Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley, Oregon
95+ Points - Robert Parker's WA:
“The 2018 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard is an incredible wine. It opens slowly to an arresting perfume of dusty earth, dried rose petals, tea leaves, licorice and amaro with a wealth of bright red berry fruit at the core. The palate is elegant, supple and juicy, with an expansive fan of layered, spicy flavors and a very long finish. It's hard to resist now, but it will have more to offer with time in bottle."
95 Points - Vinous:
"Vivid magenta. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes red and blue fruit preserves, incense and potpourri, along with a building Asian spice nuance and a hint of savory herbs. Concentrated yet lithe in character, offering palate-staining Chambord, boysenberry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors sharpened by an undercurrent of smoky minerality. Finishes sweet, seamless and impressively long, with repeating florality and discreet, well-knit tannins. Drink 2022-2031.
Third-generation grower and winemaker Jim Maresh continues to produce outstanding wines, both Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, as this year proved yet again. His “basic” Dundee Hills bottling is reliably one of the best entry-level Pinot Noirs in the US, and while the bulk of his work is focused on his family’s 124-acre (and growing) estate vineyard in the heart of the Dundee Hills, he is also doing superb work with fruit from the highly esteemed Weber vineyard, which lies just down the road. Maresh is quite keen on his 2018s, which he says have the solid structure that he desires in Pinot Noir. He told me that the 2019s don’t lack for solid bones, either, but the earlier vintage has a bit more of the power he looks to achieve." -JR (2/2022)

2022 Arterberry Maresh 'Old Vines'
Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley, Oregon
98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (for 2021 vintage):
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Old Vines comes from the Maresh Vineyard, from vines that were planted in 1970, and has a singular expression with detailed, spicy accents reminiscent of bitters or amaro. "You only get those high-toned essences if you pick al dente," winemaker Jim Maresh explains. "It's easy to volatilize all that away." The Old Vines has a medium ruby color and arresting aromas of orange bitters, mossy bark and tobacco leaves complementing a deep core of pomegranate, rhubarb and cranberry. The light-bodied palate offers remarkably pure, detailed flavors. It has velvety tannins, seamless freshness and a very long finish with a flourish of spicy accents. Drink 2025-2040." - Erin Brooks (5/18/23)
#22 Top 100 of 2021 - Wine Spectator (for 2018 vintage):
“Structured yet elegantly layered, this version offers pretty violet, raspberry and spiced tea accents that build tension toward polished, medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2029.” -TF (8/21)
