What is "Modernist" Barolo?
They are masters the modern winemaking style: shorter maceration and aged in BOTH traditional large casks (shown in the photo up above) and then transferred to smaller 100% new French oak barriques.
Their Barolos are powerful, charismatic and have exquisite refinement to remain always balanced and impeccable.

Conterno Fantino, one of the most enduring and respected wineries in the Langhe, was born in the early 80s but is now well on their way to official "cult" status... without the usual price-tags that's associated!

“One of the richer, rounder and more mouth-filling Barolos, this expansive wine fills its nicely firm structure with intricate layers of red cherries, orange peel, raspberry and cedar. While full-bodied and broad in texture, it has the signature fine-grained tannins for improvement with time. Best from 2029 and beyond.”

“The 2020 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is a delicate, elegant wine. Crushed rose petal, orange peel, white pepper, mint and crushed rocks all grace this gorgeous, translucent Barolo. All the elements are so nicely balanced. There is a feeling of crystalline purity here that is simply beguiling. It is the most ethereal and perfumed of the Barolos here. Dark, ample and broad on the palate, the 2020 offers up a beguiling mix of dark fruit, leather, tobacco, incense, licorice and dried herbs. The 2020 is a complex, dynamic wine that constantly changes in the glass. It should provide exceptional drinking for the next 15-20 years. This is classic Mosconi.” (1/24)
