Rochioli is a small, family owned winery situated in a very diverse part of the Russian River Valley. Joe Jr. and Tom Rochioli (2nd and 3rd generation winemakers and farmers for their beautiful property) both believe key factors in growing superb grapes come from the diversity in the soil types, the vineyards' proximity to the ocean, as well as the contours of the valley, allowing for morning fog and cool evening breezes. Because of the diverse terroir across their 140 acres in production, Tom ferments each block separately. While this is a common practice in Burgundy, Rochioli was one of the first in the area to introduce a micro-batch process. He believes in being able to taste unique differences between the diverse soil and clonal diversity that typifies the Russian River estate.

Here's what Robert Parker had to say about this winery:

"Quiet and assured, Tom Rochioli continues to produce spectacular wines from the family's 100 acres of vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley on both sides of Westside Road south of Healdsburg. The two most commonly encountered cuvées are the Russian River Estate Chardonnay and Russian River Estate Pinot Noir... The estate Pinot Noir sees about 50% new oak and is one of the bigger production cuvées in the Rochioli portfolio of nearly 3,200 cases. His Pinot Noirs usually see 4-5 days of pre-fermentation cold maceration, and are made from relatively small yields of tiny berries, hence they have great color and wonderful fruit. They are certainly among my favorite Pinot Noirs from the Russian River Valley."

Today wines are made with the addition of Tom's children, Rachel and Ryan, the 4th generation at Rochioli; Ryan is currently the assistant winemaker under Tom. TheChardonnay has yet to be reviewed, but please don't wait - our limited allocation will sell out quickly!

2022 Rochioli Estate Russian River Valley Chardonnay

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Predominantly from the Hanzel Clone and pouring a youthful straw yellow color, the 2022 Chardonnay Russian River Valley is elegant, pure, and sunny, with notes of lemon curd, orange blossom, and ripe golden apples. Medium to full-bodied, it has very nice purity, a silky, supple texture, and a stony finish. It’s a beautiful entry to the range to drink over the next 8-10 years. 2024 - 2034"

95 Points - Robert Parker (2021):

"The 2021 Chardonnay Estate features gregarious yellow apples, pie crust, toast and baking spice aromas with flinty streaks. The palate is silky and weightless, with a shimmery feel derived from its flinty mineral character and focused acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish."

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2021):

"A toasty aroma and good, lively, pure pear and apple flavors highlight this full-bodied wine from one of the oldest and most iconic Chardonnay vineyards in Sonoma County. The oak char character runs throughout, adding vivid spices into the mix of fruit and caramel. Best 2026–2032." — Jim Gordon

93 Points - Wine Spectator (2021):

"A stunning white wine, with peach, marmalade, mango, pineapple and citrus flavors that are fresh and juicy on a fleshy, succulent frame. Reveals hints of nutmeg, vanilla cream and roasted, salted hazelnut on the finish. Drink now. 650 cases made." - Maryann Worobiec (7/23)

2022 Rochioli Estate Russian River Valley Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc

Vineyard Planted in 1959 = Oldest in USA

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Pale straw in color, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Estate is flinty with wet rock, almost petrol, fresh chive, fresh peach, and delicate white grapefruit as well as a hint of saline. It’s a more Sancerre-inspired style, with fantastic restraint. On the palate, it offers ripe fruit as well as elegant and driving acidity, but it has a beautiful texture, with ripe peach, fresh herbs, and saline. This is a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy over the next 5-7 years or more." (Jul 2023)
