The New Faust is a Wine Spectator Top 20 of 2024 Shoo-in & SURE BET!!

Dear Artisans,
While Faust was initially considered Quintessa's unofficial 'second label' in its early vintages, it has since emerged as an epic label in its own right.
|
|
Paul Hobbs, Caldwell, and Farella were already well aware of the sublime quality of Coombsville fruit. However, Faust has always exposed this fact, offering it at an exceptionally fair price to boot.
Napa winemaking veteran David Jelinek is celebrating his 21st year and shows no sign of slowing down. Having made Harlan and Joseph Phelps in the past, the mark of his expertise is unmistakable in Faust.
It is also clearly evident that the esteemed Michel Rolland is the consulting winemaker.

2021 Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
95 Points - James Suckling:
"Inviting aromas of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries as well as crushed walnuts, cedar and bark. Full-bodied, creamy and structured with firm, polished tannins. Balanced and even with a lingering finish. Better after 2026." (Sep 2023)
94 Points, #? Top 100 of 2024 - Wine Spectator:
Packed and broad in feel, with a ganache note draped over blackcurrant, blackberry and steeped cherry. Licorice root and alder smoke flavors check in on the finish as the fruit pumps through, ending with a flash of violet. Hard to resist now, but this has some development ahead.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
Hefty and grippy, this full-bodied wine is sturdy in tannins, deep in black and blue fruits, and will come around nicely with more aging. Blackberries, blueberries, cocoa and hints of oak char make a good, complex expression on the palate.
93 Points - Wine & Spirits:
Focused on cabernet from the Faust estate in Coombsville, this includes fruit from the Huneeus family’s vineyards in Yountville and Oak Knoll, all relatively cool districts that combine in a brisk, red-fruited cabernet with cherry freshness. A bright young thing with a lot to say, it tastes like just-picked fruit, its spicy tannins supple and gracious, cool and lasting.

2018 Faust "The Pact" Coombsville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
96 Points - James Suckling:
"This is really something, showing focus and purity that highlights the unique character of this appellation. So much blue fruit, lavender and walnut with some herbal and sweet-tobacco undertones. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and poised. Lovely quality to the tannins. Exceptional. Drink after 2022." (10/26/2020)
93 Points, #98 Top 100 of 2021 - Wine Spectator:
"Distinctive, with a well-defined mix of açaí berry, plum and blueberry fruit that has a cool and fresh feel, while racy graphite, dark earth, tobacco and violet accents fill in the background. Structured and energetic through the finish, with the fruit-earth interplay showing nice persistence. Best from 2021 through 2031. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 2,200 cases made." - JM (8/2021)
12 Wines That Serious Collectors Don't Want You to Know About - Food & Wine:
"Sure, $130 may not seem like a bargain, but considering that winemaker David Jelinek has produced Harlan ($1,400+) and Joseph Phelps ($220+), it's a steal. The best place to enjoy it, of course, is at the newly renovated Faust Haus in St. Helena (home of the old St. Clement winery). In the glass, the 2018 Pact reveals an inky red, glass staining color, with aromas of boysenberry, candied raspberry, and red cherry. Lofty purple floral notes emerge on the tight knit, textured palate, unfolding in black-fruited waves atop elongated tannins all gliding toward a salted dark chocolate finish. It's plain to see why Faust fans want to keep it all for themselves."
