Construction Update

January 24, 2024

Galilee Way Closure

Beginning as early as January 29, crews will close Galilee Way at 9000 South for the next six weeks.

This closure is necessary to complete construction activities on the north side of 9000 South without impacting traffic on 9000 South.

To access Galilee Way, please follow the detour shown on the right.

Overnight Work

Crews continue overnight work on 9000 South at 1300 West. Crews are upgrading the existing sewer line on the south side of 1300 West extending into the 9000 South intersection. This work requires bypass pumping and lane closures requiring the work to take place overnight.

1300 West will be closed southbound at 9000 South nightly during this work - reopening each morning at 5:00 a.m. Motorists should use Redwood Road to 9800 South as a detour route. Due to delays related to weather, this work has been extended through February 9*.

Area residents can expect an increase in overnight construction noise and vibration. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures and delays travelling through the corridor.

Ongoing Activities

  • As early as January 25 and again on January 29, crews will have a short-term water interruption lasting several hours each day. Affected property owners have already been notified.

  • Crews have begun work on a new concrete wall near Galilee Way on the north side of 9000 South. Please take extra caution in this area as the work is immediately adjacent to the roadway.

  • Crews continue work on new storm drain lines on the south side of 9000 South near 900 West along with new canal piping between 1300 West and Redwood Road. As this work continues, businesses may have short-term access interruptions.

  • Additional work continues near the Jordan River where crews are forming, placing rebar, and pouring concrete for the new bridge supports.

*Schedule is subject to change due to weather, equipment, or material delays.

Support Local Business

Supporting local businesses not only stimulates local economies, but the tax revenue made through sale taxes from local businesses supports local government. This is then used to reinvest in the community. During construction, it is especially important to make a commitment to shop locally and support small businesses along the corridor.

Accesses to all your favorite businesses will always be maintained - just maybe in a different location. #ShopLocal

Safety

Information for bicyclists and pedestrians

As a reminder, all bicycles need to use the approved detour and avoid 9000 South. Additionally, there is no pedestrian access between 900 West and 700 West. Pedestrians are prohibited from using 9000 South between this section as the roadway has been narrowed and there are no usable pedestrian facilities. The approved detour maps are below.

35 MPH work zone

Slow Down - Give 'em a Brake!

The speed limit has been reduced to 35 miles per hour through the entire work zone from 600 West to Redwood Road. Please help our workers make it home to their families every night by reducing your speed in the work zone.

Thank you to the Sandy City and West Jordan City Police Departments for ensuring our workers and everyone using the roadway remains safe and make it home to their families each and every day!

We ask all drivers in work zones to:

  • Slow down – drive the posted speeds, they're there for your safety.
  • Be kind – our workers are out there helping to keep you safe and improve the roadways.
  • Pay attention – both to workers directing you and surrounding traffic; put your phone down when behind the wheel.
  • Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take an alternate route if possible; no meeting or appointment is worth risking someone's life.

Reminders

Eastbound 9000 South left turn closed at 700 West

The left turning lane to 700 West from eastbound 9000 South has been closed through summer 2024.

Traffic should use Sandy Parkway (450 West) as the detour route.

This closure is necessary to ensure safety as there is insufficient room to install a left-turning lane.
