student services

college visits: Numerous colleges visit the students of Langley every day. These presentations are available for juniors and seniors only. Students need to register for visits via their Family Connections accounts. Ms. Wolff in the Career Center will give students yellow passes to attend the presentations, but students are reminded to confirm with their teachers that they can leave class.

seniors: Any senior with a college application deadline of Oct 1 through Oct 21 should turn in all necessary documents to their school counselors by Fri, Sept 19.

Any students planning to apply early decision and/or early action need to see their school counselor immediately.

Any student who has not turned in their blue transcript/diploma verification form should do so by Mon, Sept 22.

testing, testing, testing
All testing information is located on the Langley HS website. Please visit for the testing calendar, testing tips, etc.
Parents are reminded to save a copy of all testing score reports (like the PSAT).
These score reports are important and you might need to reference them in the future. Langley keeps records of the scores, but not the details provided in the score report.

PSAT deadline: The Oct 1 deadline is coming soon for Oct 15 PSAT testing.

Ninth grade students with disabilities who have been identified for testing accommodations in a 504 plan or an IEP may request accommodations for the ReadiStep (in line with the accommodations designated on either the 504 or IEP) by contacting Janice Dabroski, LHS Assessment Coach at <jldabroski@fcps.edu> no later than Wed, Oct 1.

Juniors may take the PSAT but opt out of paying for a score report, and thus will not have their test scored. You must initial the registration form and return by Wed, Oct 1, to opt out of paying for a score report.

All forms and information regarding the Oct 15 PSAT test is available on the LHS website under "Testing."
faculty spotlight
Directing the bands at Langley, including the Marching Saxons, is Fairfax County's own Doug Martin. Vienna born and raised, Mr. Martin arrived at Langley HS three years ago after 14 years teaching elsewhere in FCPS. He is proud of the growth in the band program at Langley under his tenure. This year the marching band has its largest student participation in years, with a revived color guard. Their first performance will be the home football game on Sept 19.

Mr. Martin's fondest memories at Langley include the band's trip to Spain last year, as well as the extraordinary performance of the piece "Ecstatic Waters" last spring. He is looking forward to next spring, when the band will give the world premiere of a piece being written especially for them in honor of Langley's 50th anniversary.

Mr. Martin is fascinated by all kinds of music, which he loves to share with his students. He himself plays trumpet, which he played at Florida State (bachelor's) and GMU (master's). He met his wife in their high school band, where she played the French horn. They have a 4-year-old daughter. He would love to see everyone come to a band performance!

fine arts
band: Look for the Langley Marching Band at Langley's opening football game this Friday! At the game, band members will ask for your support for Tag Day - the band's biggest fundraiser. Langley's bands perform throughout the year at home football games, concerts, competitions, and other community and school events. Your gift enables them to purchase uniforms, music, instruments, and professional clinicians. Please consider a donation at Friday's game. 100% of the money collected goes directly to benefit the students! Thank you, LHS Athletic Boosters for giving the band this opportunity at Friday's game!

You can also donate directly to the LHS Band by going to our website: langleyband.org.

orchestra: You can enjoy live music while orchestra students make your car squeaky clean!  On Sat, Sept 20 from 9am - 4pm, the orchestra invites the Langley community to their car wash at the McLean BP station, 1423 Chain Bridge Rd. LHS Orchestra appreciates your support.

orchestra parents: Please come to the spring trip parent meeting on Mon, Sept 22 at 7:30 pm in the Library.  Find out about the exciting plans for our March trip to New York City and the orchestra's performance at Carnegie Hall.

chorus: Langley Choral students kicked off the school year with a return of our successful coffee sale. This annual fundraiser features items from Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, a local coffee company located in Crofton, Md (www.cbrccoffee.com). Students are selling an assortment of coffees, teas, and cocoas from Sept 5 through Oct 10 to earn money for their travel expenses to San Antonio. There they will compete in the Heritage Music Festival. Your orders will be available in time for the holiday season! To order, contact any Langley choral student or coffee sale coordinator Ana Kreutzer at <aok1348@yahoo.com> before Oct 10.

The Choral Guild is also selling personalized Langley license plate frames, and chances to win a SAT Success Course or three 1-hour tutoring sessions from Georgetown Learning Centers. Proceeds from these fundraisers go directly to the Guild, which provides financial and administrative support to the award-winning LHS Chorus. For info on the license plates, contact Rhonda Salem at <Rhonda.salem@fcps.edu>. For other info, contact Christina Daly, <markdaly3@verizon.net>.

The Langley Choirs will hold a car wash on Sat, Sept 20 at the Sunoco at the intersection of Old Dominion Dr and Spring Hill Rd. The car wash begins at 9 am and wraps up at 3 pm. Please come out to support the Langley choirs.
boosters news
A special shout-out to Girls Volleyball Head Coach Susan Shifflett on winning her 300th career match on Sept 9!

Our Langley Saxons football team has their home season opener this Friday night. It's a Black Out, so dress in black and come cheer on the team as they take on T.C. Williams at 7:30pm.  C2 Education, Langley's educational partner and platinum sponsor, is sponsoring this week's game. They will be giving away black thundersticks at the game in recognition of the Black Out. C2 is offering a special discount rate on their tutoring program for Langley students to prepare for the SATs. They'll also donate back $99 to Langley Athletic Boosters for each enrollment at their McLean location. Click here for more info: c2mclean.com/c2-sat-prep-program

And while you're at the game, check out the latest food offerings: PF Chang's lettuce wraps and fried rice available at the concession stand!

To increase exposure for our generous advertisers and sponsors, we will now print customized programs for each home football game. Both the Langley and visiting team varsity rosters will be printed inside each game's programs. Watch for our covers to change with each game!  Be sure to pick up one or more of these keepsake programs. The price will remain $2 each, sold at the gate for all Varsity games. Only a limited edition of each program will be printed, so you can order yours in advance through your team parent or booster rep. Paper rosters will be handed out at Freshman and JV football games, and programs will be sold at the concession stand.

Saxon Spirit yard signs are in and available for pick up in the main concession stand during the following days/times:
Thurs 9/18:  2:30 - 3:30 pm
Fri 9/19: 6 pm - end of football game
Mon 9/22:    6 pm - end of field hockey game
