With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Mike Frankovich late Saturday night. He departed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Mike was a fixture in the A Cat fleet for over 38 years, purchasing Bat with Bob Lostrom in 1985 and first racing her in the BBYRA in 1986. Over those years, Mike sailed on Bat, Mary Ann, Witch, Tamwock, Lotus, Wasp and Spyder – more than half the boats in the A Cat fleet.
In 38 years and on seven boats, he touched an incredible number of lives among past and present fleet members. He is remembered as a loving father and husband, and as a great tactician and skipper who always found a way to make his crew laugh while remaining a fierce competitor.
