Sunshine is in the forecast, and Spring is in the air! Now is the perfect time to get out into the garden to finish pruning Panicle Hydrangeas and to get a new tree or shrub into the ground (especially if Winter storms took out an old favorite).

Our Garden Centers have dozens of beautiful Rhododendrons, Pieris, Magnolias, and Cherries in stock, but if you’re looking for something a little more unusual, check out our latest list of Underappreciated Flowering Trees & Shrubs!

If starting small is more your style, March is perfect for planting seeds. We featured some stunning, seed-grown plants in our Bohemian Landscape Guide last fall, and now is the best time to add these Romantic or Moody plants to borders and beds!

To build on the glorious momentum of Spring, we’ve decided to bring back Art in the Garden with a Spring Makers Market, and we can’t wait for you to join us!

STARTING THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 9TH, OUR GARDEN CENTERS WILL BE OPEN LATER!

Winter Storm Damaged Your Plants?

Replace your hedges, trees, or shrubs now! If the last round of ice took out valuable plants in your landscape or privacy hedge, now is the perfect time to replace those plants! By planting in early Spring, you’ll minimize transplant shock, get watering help from the rain, and the plants will slowly acclimate to your yard.

Our selection of hedge material, trees, and shrubs is growing daily, and we’d love to help you find the right plant to spruce up your yard.

Weekend Gardening Task:

Prune Your Hydrangeas

HOW TO PRUNE PANICLE & SMOOTH HYDRANGEAS

Popular varieties: Limelight, Little Hottie, Vanilla Strawberry, Annabelle

The goal: Prune to create a strong, vase-shaped plant that doesn’t flop!

What to do: Remove broken, small, and crossing branches. Cut down to desired height, assuming the plant will put on 2 to 4 feet of new growth depending on the variety.

HOW TO PRUNE MOPHEAD & OAKLEAF HYDRANGEAS

Popular varieties: Summer Crush, Nikko Blue, Jetstream, Ruby Slippers

The goal: Tidy up the plant without sacrificing any blooms!

What to do: Remove broken branches and remaining spent flower heads down to the first set of new leaves. If very old and large, cut down ¼ of the old, tall branches to the base to establish new growth that will bloom in 2025.
