Celebration Countdown!

We're counting down to our 60th Anniversary Celebration!

Join us on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 7:00 PM to celebrate East Haddam Historical Society & Museum's 60th anniversary, and to celebrate you!

We'll celebrate under a tent on the grounds of the Museum. You can bid on an array of silent auction items, enjoy wonderful food prepared by Chef Harry, and be entertained by the live music of Old Dog New Trick. This fundraiser promises to be a great evening and a chance to celebrate with old & new friends!

A Tour of the Goodspeed Opera House, presented by author Janet Lemond

Join us on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM for a presentation about the Goodspeed Opera House.

Janet Lemond, author of A Tour of the Goodspeed Opera House, will describe the amazing history of the Opera House, its restoration in the 20th century, and will offer a virtual room-by-room tour of some of the 18th century artifacts.

Janet has provided Opera House tours since 2018. As a child, she witnessed the deterioration of the Opera House and the restoration to its present-day splendor. Copies of her book will be available for purchase at the event. While you're there, check out our Goodspeed exhibit in the front lobby!

Date: Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 2-3 PM

Location: East Haddam Historical Society & Museum, 264 Town Street.

The event is free for members and children under 12, with a suggestion donation of $5.00 for non-members. For information call 860-873-3944.

Historic Homes of East Haddam, Part 1, A Huge Success!

On Sunday, August 20th, Dr. Karl Stofko, Town Historian, shared his fascinating presentation on Historic Homes of East Haddam's Lower Landing with a full house of enthusiasts! Using old and new photos of homes and businesses in the Swing Bridge area, Dr. Stofko entertained the audience with insights and stories of the people and places that shaped our community from the 1700s - 1900s.

Stayed tuned for Part 2, Historic Homes of the Upper Landing area, expected to be offered in October!

Spotlight on Our Volunteers

Volunteers Cory Hart and Sam Brown can be found at the Museum most Tuesdays and Thursdays enjoying their love of history and helping with a myriad of projects. Cory is particularly fond of the legacy of William Gillette, and Sam is a student with a personal passion for history that carries over into his volunteer work.

Their contributions are greatly appreciated by the Board of Trustees, the staff, and all the other volunteers!
