News from the IRS
Employee Retention Credit Scams - The Internal Revenue Service recently alerted businesses to beware of misleading claims involving the Employee Retention Credit, advising companies to work with a trusted tax professional, not someone promoting the credit. While it is an important pandemic-era credit and valuable if appropriately claimed, it could result in repayment, substantial penalties, and interest if falsely claimed.
Improvements for Small Business/IRS Interactions - Changes are being rolled out, making it easier for businesses to deal with the Internal Revenue Service. These changes include improved phone, in-person, and online contact - Online options include business accounts, the ability to respond to online notices, and mobile-friendly forms.
