5th Annual Clay Target Tournament Fundraiser Benefit for Oregon Logging Conference Foundation

23 teams and many generous sponsors helped raise more than $61,000 at the 5th Annual Oregon Logging Conference Foundation (OLCF) Clay Target Tournament fundraiser held on September 8, 2023. Proceeds will provide college and technical scholarships to be awarded by the OLCF.

 

“Once again we are very fortunate to be able to hold this fundraiser and at the end of the day, we raised more than $61,000 which will provide financial assistance to the next generation workforce in our industry,” said event chair and OLC Board Member Jeanne Shuttleworth.

 

This annual fundraiser event was held at Creswell Clay Target Sports in Creswell, OR.

 

Participating teams rotated through the stations on the course, and for each broken “bird” or clay target, one point was awarded to the individual who shot it. In addition to paid registration, participants had the option to buy “do-over” tickets for missed rounds

1st place Ocean Terminals (for the fifth consecutive year)

2nd place Bell Lumber & Pole

3rd place Giustina Resource

4th place Duman Inc

Cinderella award: Western Forest Products

High Scoring: Steve Munsell and Gracie Stuntman

Conservation award (lowest scoring individual) Nick Smith

 

“The event was a huge success, and we had a wonderful turnout,” said Rikki Wellman, OLC Manager. “This group of people always comes together to help support and continue the future of the logging industry,” she added.

 

The fundraiser included a breakfast and lunch catered by Chapala’s Catering, breakfast sponsored by Triad Machinery, lunch sponsored by Papé Kenworth, beverages sponsored by Modern Machinery, an auction, and an opportunity drawing.

 

Special thanks to those who donated auction items: Melcher Logging Inc., ShaneCo Timber, Creswell Clay Target Sports, Kevin Merritt and Giustina Resources, Thompson Timber, Dean and Jeanne Shuttleworth, Martie Munsell, L & L Inc., Rikki & Dave Wellman, Papé Machinery, Bar Run Golf, Chapala's Mexican Restaurant, OLC Foundation, Seven Feathers, Martin Timber Harvesting, Siuslaw Sporting Clays, Heather Search LTP and Three Rivers Casino. Proceeds from the auction and opportunity drawing totaled over $16,000.

 

Title sponsors were Bell Lumber & Pole, Giustina Resources, Swanson Group, Papé Machinery, RiverRidge Excavating, Duman Inc., Western Forest Products and Douglas County Forest Product.

A tentative date has been selected for the 6th Annual Clay Target fundraiser and that is September 6, 2024.

86th Annual OLC

Program Planning Underway


Some topics and speakers have been selected and others are still under discussed for being included in the program at the 86th Annual Oregon Logging Conference, taking place February 22 – 24, 2024.

 

One panel discussion will be an update on the Private Forest Accord. With changes now in place from this legislation, a panel will be assembled to provide an update and specific details of what this means to logging and forestry professionals.

 

Lefi Tausaga of Douglas County Forest Products in Roseburg, OR will be the moderator of this panel discussion, to be presented on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wheeler Pavilion. 

 

Specific topics for the hands-on seminars, business seminars, and Washington Forest Practices Acts are still in the planning stages.

 

Registered companies and individuals can earn Professional Logging Credit and two continuing education credits for attending these sessions.

Exhibitors at the Oregon Logging Conference – Sign Up Now

The Oregon Logging Conference is now accepting applications for both inside and outside exhibitors for next year’s 86th Annual gathering at the Lane Event Center and Fairgrounds in Eugene.

 

Renewal contracts were emailed in July of this year, to those who exhibited at the 2023 OLC. Anyone who is planning to participate as an exhibitor in 2024 is asked to complete the contract and return it as soon as possible to the OLC office, to reserve the same booth location.
