Summer Learning Recommendations
Read!
Whenever a parent asks about the best way to keep their child academically engaged and ready for the next school year throughout the long summer, the simplest and most effective answer can be summed up in a single word: READ! We strongly recommend that parents read to children, read with children, and encourage children to read on their own. The content does not necessarily need to be dense or tied into any school subject. Reading books of interest can stimulate the mind and imagination, and help children build knowledge, improve memory, and expand their vocabulary.
Our communities have terrific libraries. You can find their websites linked below. If you don’t already have a library card, consider getting one!
The Carol Stream Public Library has a Summer Reading Olympics program for kids ages 0-12, featuring prizes for reading. It starts next week. Check out this flyer for more.

Log Into iReady
From now through August 1, all current CCSD93 students are able to log into any device to use iReady, which is a fun and educational adaptive assessment that focuses on math and literacy.
To do so, start by visiting Clever at https://www.clever.com/, select Log in as Student, type in your child’s school where prompted, select Log in with Google and use your child’s typical CCSD93 Google credentials to log in. From there, you will be able to connect to iReady. Doing a bit of iReady here and there is helpful in keeping up these skills.

Carol Stream 5th Graders Leave Legacy
Before moving on from Carol Stream Elementary, the school’s 5th graders created works to leave their mark on the school. Collaborating in small groups, they storyboarded, wrote, animated and published fictional narratives where characters employ the “3 P’s”--perseverance, productive struggle and problem solving--to find success. Each group’s Legacy Book was bound into a physical copy and gifted to a younger grade’s class, where it will live on in the classroom library to teach others how to overcome obstacles for years to come! Watch this video to find out more!
Western Trails 3rd Graders Host Living Museum
This week, the Innovation Center (IC) at Western Trails was filled with luminaries from a wide array of fields and historical eras, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Taylor Swift, Simone Biles, Nikola Tesla and many more as 3rd graders hosted their Living Museum! After learning all about biographies, the students researched a famous person of their choosing and wrote a script from that figure’s perspective. Today they dressed as their celebrity, froze in place in the IC, and performed their speech for parent and peer visitors who approached them before returning to their starting pose. Way to go Wildcats!
