Hi Neighbors,
Thank you to all the friends, neighbors, and volunteers who helped make our Independence Day celebration at Lake Cunningham a success!
From its inception, our Independence Day celebration aimed to bring new resources into District 8 promoting a safe celebration for all to enjoy. It has been shown that officially sanctioned fireworks celebrations help reduce the occurrence of illegal fireworks and service calls during peak hours of the 4th of July celebrations. The success of these sanctioned events is only possible when we work together and collaborate as closely as possible with our first responders, especially our local firefighters, paramedics, and police officers.
As part of these celebrations, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many sacrifices and year-round contributions of our veterans, active military, and first responders. July 4th is a special holiday embodying American tradition and our country's rich history where we celebrate the start of our nation. These freedoms we enjoy are possible because of our heroes working to keep our nation, our neighborhoods, and its interests safe. Thank you to all our veterans, military, and first responders. If you want to help show your support, I encourage you to connect with a local organization such as the Veterans Supportive Services Agency (VSSA), and/or help share some of the local resources I have included under announcements in this newsletter.
Finally, I want to close with a special thank you to our San José Fire Department (SJFD) for their 24/7 vigilance during this recent heatwave. While a minor brush fire occurred in a controlled zone at Lake Cunningham during the fireworks show, many other fire incidents took place throughout the City that were not part of any controlled zones. That's why it's important to have sanctioned fireworks events under the guidance of our public safety professionals. If you or a neighbor witness any illegal fireworks exhibitions and are unable to report online through 3-1-1, please call 408-535-5600, or call 9-1-1 for any active emergencies.
Best,
