As a former teacher who worked at a neighborhood school, I know the profound effect that neighborhood schools have on the local community. This is why I have always been opposed to charter schools. I believe that charter schools take resources away from neighborhood schools that could use them to improve and thrive.

Recently, Noble Charter High School let me know that they planned to move one of their current high schools to the site where Lycee Francais School is currently located at the NE corner of Irving Park Road and Lake Shore Drive. The Lycee Francais, a private school, will be moving to their new location in Ravenswood this summer. I let them know that I will be opposing this move.

I have heard from a number of residents in the 46th Ward voicing their opposition to this move. As I have consistently said, I agree with them. I will be present at the next Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Board of Education meeting and will be writing a letter to CPS voicing my opposition to Noble moving into our ward.

I will do everything possible to have the needed resources to improve the local schools we presently have in our area. The goal is to have all parents of school age children view their local school as their best choice for a quality education.

 Best,

UPDATE ON BROADWAY STREETSCAPING

The Chicago Dept. of Transportation has informed us that the $6M streetscaping project on Broadway from Gunnison to Leland will start in the spring of 2016 rather than this fall. The reason for the delay is due to the vaulted sidewalk issues surrounding Bridgeview Bank. The vaults are in need of repair first before the major streetscaping begins. Click here to view the plans for the project.
