Dear Neighbor,
This week, we scored another victory in the fight against high-density development. The proposal to develop 297 apartments at 8535 W. Higgins was officially denied in Zoning Committee and by the City Council.
Last year, we were also successful amending the zoning at 8601 W. Bryn Mawr. This property was rezoned in 2012 by the previous 41st Ward Alderman to allow the development of 397 apartments.
This area of the 41st Ward already has a inordinate amount of density and its i mpact has overwhelmed the local school, Dirksen Elementary. Adding another 694 apartments would have been detrimental to Dirksen.
Thank you to the Dirksen LSC members and residents that came to speak at the meeting as well as all of the 41st Ward residents who have shared their opinions with me regarding this development. I am honored to serve as your Alderman. I will always represent your interests and be YOUR voice in City Council.
