41 Street Water Main Replacement Project Construction Update

Phase 3b begins on Thursday, August 1, 2024

Project Update

The contractor for the 41 Street Water Main Replacement project will soon begin part two of Phase 3 (also known as Phase 3b). The work will comprise a water main tie-in, which is a connection between a new and an existing main. The contractor is awaiting approval from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) before moving forward with Phase 3b. We will notify the community once this phase has been authorized.

Phase 3b: Upcoming Temporary Traffic Pattern Changes (August 1 – August 6)

  • 41 Street westbound between Pine Tree Drive and Indian Creek Drive will remain one lane.
  • 41 Street between Indian Creek Drive and Collins Avenue will be closed in both direction to all through traffic but remain open to local resident traffic only. Vehicles traveling northbound on Collins Avenue must proceed to 44 Street.
  • The dedicated right-turn lane on Indian Creek Drive southbound will be closed.
  • Indian Creek Drive southbound from 44 to 41 Street will be reduced to one straight/turning lane.

Timeline

Phase 3b, will begin on Thursday, August 1, 2024 and is expected to take less than one week to complete. Work hours are Monday–Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to the nature of this operation and heavy machinery, a 24-hour lane closure will be in effect.

Please know that this schedule may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Commuters to and from Miami Beach will face delays on 41 Street due to lane closures. Drivers are encouraged to use the MacArthur or 79 Street causeways to avoid delays.
  • There may be construction noise due to equipment.
  • There may be moderate noise impacts outside of normal working hours, including overnight periods, due to ongoing operations.
  • A staging area will be set up within the closed lane.
  • Emergency vehicles will always have access.
  • There will be increased off-duty police presence during construction hours.

Project Overview

The City of Miami Beach is replacing the aerial water main along 41 Street between Pine Tree Drive and Collins Avenue. This critical project will upgrade the existing infrastructure to a 20-inch pipe via horizontal directional drilling. Once completed, the new pipe will provide the necessary flow capacity to support increasing demand along Collins Avenue.
