FORTY AND FABULOUS: AN ANNIVERSARY FOR THE AGES!

The Community Foundation’s celebrated its 40th Anniversary on October 11, and it was spectacular! Over 400 guests gathered at the Cadillac Service Garage for an evening filled with hugs, happiness, and history. Pairs of key Board Members enlightened the crowed with tales of CFGG’s impactful journey through the decades to today:

  • The 1980s: Rip Bernhardt and Shirley Frye
  • The 1990s: Tom Sloan & Carole Simms
  • The 2000s: Patrice Hinnant & David Sprinkle
  • The 2010s: CC Lamberth & Ron Milstein
  • The 2020s: Louise Brady & Uma Avva

We enjoyed great entertainment, learned more about the “Future Funders”, young professionals representing the Future Fund endowment, who shared insights on their grantmaking, and we premiered this street mic video with and for our supporters. The event was amazing and made our hearts swell with pride. Check out these photos captured by Ashleigh Crawley of Still Shots Photography

A special thanks to CFGG’s Development Committee led by Sue Simmons and a big shout-out to Taylor Ghost of STITCH Design Shop and Nick Wilson of 1618 On Location for their contributions to the night’s festivities.

The Community Foundation recognizes that any impact we have had in the community has been made possible by the many philanthropists, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and community members who engaged with us over the last 40 years. Thank you for your commitment to making Greensboro a better place to live, work, and play. Here's to the next 40 years, cheers!

CFGG GIVES BACK AT PDY&F COMMUNITY GARDEN

Community Foundation staff dug in the dirt for a meaningful community service day at Positive Direction for Youth and Families Community Garden on September 22, 2023.

PDY&F Community Garden is located in East Greensboro, an area that has been classified as a “food desert”, where grocery stores that sell fresh produce are nearly non-existent. PDY&F strives to serve fresh, healthy food options to those affected by this disparity, educate the community, and launch a new generation of black and brown farmers.

QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (QCD)

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to share a valuable opportunity that may allow you to make an even greater impact through your charitable giving.

You may be familiar with the concept of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD is a tax-savvy way for individuals aged 70½ or older to contribute to nonprofits like the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (CFGG), directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Not only does this help you support the causes you care about, but it can also offer significant tax benefits.

QCDs cannot be directed to donor-advised funds (DAFs) at a community foundation or any other sponsoring organizations; they can only be made to permanent endowments. CFGG’s most popular endowments for gifts of this nature are: Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund, Endowment to Engage Youth in the Performing Arts, Future Fund Endowment, Greensboro Community Leadership Fund, Public Art Endowment, and Women to Women Endowment.

Please reach out to our VP of Development and Donor Engagement, Cathy Knowles, if you are interested in learning more.
