4 Steps to Writing New Years Resolutions

The New Year, marks a fresh start and it's a perfect opportunity to focus on the changes you want to make.

Here are 4 steps to writing your New Years resolutions.

1. Write down you goals in positive form.
If you want to quit smoking, over-eating, over-spending, etc., write down your goal as a positive action rather than what you want to stop doing. Find alternatives to a behavior you want to change, and make this part of your resolution plan. If you want to quit smoking but you smoke to relax yourself? What other forms of relaxation are available to you?
Write down what you intend to do using positive language. Only about 5% of people write down their life goals. Be clear about the vision of your goal and how your life will improve.

2. Set timely deadlines.
Break down large goals into small goals. If you know where you want to be in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc. Write down daily and weekly deadlines. Goals that aren't time bound are likely to never get completed.

3. Design actions.
Be specific. What? When? Where? How?
For example, if you want to improve your well-being.  A general goal would be, "Get in shape." But a specific goal would be, "Join a health club and workout 3 days a week." Write down your main desired goal with as many achievable steps as possible.

4. Stay committed.
Most people fail to reach their goals because they give up to soon. If you are not on track to meet your goal deadline - don't give up. Tony Robbins said, "Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach." If something isn't working adjust your goal or the actions to achieve your desired outcome. Keep a balanced attitude. Celebrate and acknowledge your wins but don't beat yourself up when you fall off track. Condition your mind to stay committed.

Remember, aim for things that are truly important to you, not what you think you ought to do or what others expect of you.

May this year be the year that your goals and dreams manifest.

Happy New Year!
