Would you like to compete next year?

We have so many events, competitions, and SCHOLARSHIPS that you or your child already qualify for through 4-H! Many of our new Roundup delegates expressed that they didn't know about many of the events going on. So, we want to see what you are interested in this coming 4-H year. We will try our best to have solid teams and practices for those interested. (The survey gives the opportunity to get more information as well). Let us know by taking this survey:

H.U.G.S.

Every fall, Oklahoma County 4-H does a clothing drive for unhoused people and foster children called H.U.G.S. (Hats, Underwear, Gloves, and Socks). We will be collecting H.U.G.S. for the Homeless Alliance and Citizens Caring for Children during the month of October! Donations will be collected through October 30th and monetary donations will be accepted as well. Please send your checks to Oklahoma County OSU Extension, 2500 NE 63rd St., OKC, OK 73111 with "HUGS" in the memo line or call to donate using your debit or credit card, (405) 713-1125.

Food, Fun, 4-H at School

Some students in Muskogee County are learning more than reading, writing and arithmetic – they’re also learning to cook and where their food comes from. The Food, Fun, 4-H program has been around for a few years and was originally designed to be implemented at home. This year’s program was piloted in 10 schools in the spring of 2023 and focused on Oklahoma-grown commodities. New lessons are set to roll out in November 2023.

Leigh Cooper, a 4-H leader in Muskogee County and a teacher, said Food, Fun, 4-H at School has proven to be very popular with grade school students who participated in the after-school activity.

“The students not only learned some basic cooking skills, but they also gained a lot of information about where their food comes from,” Cooper said. “We had a theme each month that included beef, pork, chicken, wheat and corn, which are the top commodities produced in Oklahoma.”
