START SOMEWHERE CHALLENGE

GET BACK INTO SPIRITUAL SHAPE

The Start Somewhere Challenge at Stella Maris invites all Catholics

to attend at least one Eucharistic event

(Mass, quiet prayer in a church, a talk, a concert)

between February and July 2024.

There’s plenty to choose from because we’re

launching our own Eucharistic Revival.

EUCHARISTIC SAINTS

A LENTEN TALK SERIES

Every saint loved the Eucharist, but some saints

expressed a particular devotion to the Eucharist.

This Lenten talk series for our Stella Maris Family

will peer into the mystery of the Eucharist

through the life of a saint and that saint’s devotion.

Each talk will be followed by a time for Q&A

with the speaker and a wine and cheese reception.

Each event will begin at 7pm.

  • Mar. 6 @ St. Mary w/ Mother Marie-Cécile, OCD — St. Thérèse of Lisieux
  • Mar. 13 @ St. Bernadette w/ Mother Seraphina Marie, FDM — St. Clare of Assisi

EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES EXHIBITION

Stella Maris will be hosting Bl. Carlo Acutis’ Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition

from Feb. 16-Mar. 17, with panels split between the four churches.

Travel from one of our parishes to the next to “catch them all!”

Due to space constraints and constant facility usage,

we are unable to have all of the panels displayed

in one location for the whole month.

The best way to view the maximum number of panels

will be visiting each church during a scheduled Mass/adoration/reconciliation time,

or attending each of the Eucharistic Saints talks

four consecutive Wednesday nights from Feb. 21-Mar. 13.

NOVENA PRAYERS

ST. PATRICK

STARTS: MARCH 8

ENDS: MARCH 17

St. Patrick was enslaved as a teenager but

escaped and became a missionary to Ireland.

His courage and faith converted the Irish

from Celtic paganism to Catholicism.

He is the Patron saint of Ireland, engineers,

paralegals, and against snakes.

BIOGRAPHY OF ST. PATRICK

St. Patrick, obtain for me grace to love God

with my whole heart,

to serve him with my whole strength,

and to persevere in good purposes to the end,

O faithful shepherd of the Irish flock,

who wouldst have laid down a thousand lives

to save one soul, take my soul, and the souls

of my countrymen, under thy special care.

Grant that all hearts may share the blessed

fruits of the Gospel that plants and waters souls.

I arise today through a mighty strength,

the invocation of the Trinity,

through a belief in the Threeness,

through confession of the Oneness

of the Creator of creation.

Pray for us, O glorious saint Patrick.

Obtain for us the intention of this Novena.

SPECIAL PRAYERS

2024 YEAR OF PRAYER

The Vatican presented initiatives to

"rediscover the value of prayer"

during the 2024 Year of Prayer

in preparation of the Jubilee 2025.

The Prayer for This Week During This Year of Prayer

Praying to the Holy Spirit should be a central pillar

of every Christian’s prayer life, though sometimes

we may not even think about it.

The good news is that praying to the Holy Spirit

doesn’t have to be complicated

and is much simpler than we might imagine.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and enkindle in them the fire of your love.

Heavenly King, Consoler Spirit,

Spirit of Truth, present everywhere

and filling all things,

treasure of all good and source of all life,

come dwell in us, cleanse and save us,

you who are All Good.

AMEN

The Same In My Business

A pastor waited in line to have his car filled with gas

just before a long holiday weekend.

The attendant worked quickly, but there were many

cars ahead of him in front of the service station.

Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump.

"Preacher," said the young man, "I'm sorry about the delay.

It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute

to get ready for a long trip."

The pastor chuckled,

"I know what you mean.

It's the same in my business."

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION

For MARCH 3, 2024

3RD SUNDAY IN LENT

JN 2:13-25

OBEY GOD

  • The crowds thronging Jerusalem during Passover were attracted to Jesus and impressed by the signs or miracles he performed.

  • The merchants, moneychangers, and temple officials would be furious, though, since Jesus disrupted their biggest money-making season.

  • Here Christ foretells his greatest miracle. He is the true temple of God because he is God incarnate. Men will destroy this temple by putting him to death but he will rebuild it through his resurrection.

  • At the time, Jesus’ disciples did not understand Jesus’ zeal as Son of the Father. They also did not grasp that he was the true temple of God.

  • Perhaps Jesus’ disciples were impressed by the success their master seemed to be enjoying in Jerusalem, since “many began to believe in his name.”

  • But Jesus was not a celebrity riding a wave of success due to people wanting whatever he was offering. He had his own agenda which no one around him understood. He understood people but people did not understand him. He knew human nature. He knew it and loved it, but prudently did not trust it in us fallen men.

  • God gradually revealed himself to humanity through words and deeds. The words include the entire moral law, the Ten Commandments, the two greatest commandments, the new commandment of love, and Christ himself the Word of God. The deeds include signs, blessings and punishments, the experience of happiness by doing good, and suffering, death, and resurrection.

ANSWER TO QUIZ

IS LENT REALLY 40 DAYS?

The flood lasted 40 days.

Moses spent 40 days on the mountain,.

Jesus fasted 40 days in the wilderness.

so Lent is a season 40 days long.

Right?

If you take out your calendar and begin

counting forward from Ash Wednesday,

you may be surprised to see you hit 40

before you reach Easter Sunday.

Why is that?

BOOK

RECOMMENDATION

We need to be armed for battle!

At all times, and especially during these crazy times in this vale of tears,

we need to lay our foundation in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual reading helps us build and strengthen that foundation.

Order through your favorite book dealer.

This week's recommendation is:

THIS IS MY BODY

BY

Bishop Barron

A recent Pew Forum survey revealed the startling statistic

that 69% of Catholics do not believe in the

Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

For the majority of Catholics today, the Eucharist is merely

a symbol of Christ, and the Mass is merely a collectivity

of like-minded individuals gathering to remember his life.

This indicates a spiritual disaster, for the

Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life."

In response to this crisis, Bishop Robert Barron,

began working with his brother bishops on a solution.

From these conversations, the National Eucharistic Revival was born.

This Is My Body: A Call to Eucharistic Revival

is designed to accompany that revival.

We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful

spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled,

Christ centered life.
