Boise, ID -- (9/13/2018) -- This week, officials from
National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of Idaho students selected as Semifinalists in the 64th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. A total of 31 students from the Boise School District were announced as Semifinalists, which represents 37% of Idaho's total number of 2019 National Merit Semifinalists (83). That's an impressive showing considering Boise School District enrolls about 9% of the students in Idaho.
"Each year, only one percent of students nationwide achieve National Merit Semi-Finalist status," explained Boise School District Superintendent Dr. Don Coberly. "To achieve this prestigious distinction serves as an indication that the hard work and diligence of these Boise District students is paying off. We congratulate each of our award winners and their families. Boise School District is committed to providing a high quality education to each and every student, including the advanced, rigorous coursework and highly skilled teachers and instructional staff students need to earn this recognition."
These academically talented high school seniors now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation issued a
news release with the names of the Boise School District students and the other Idaho students selected as National Merit Semifinalists.
