Online Donations Continue to Trend Up
Network for Good's
Digital Giving Index
Based on data from
$242M in donations from 1.1M donors to 41,000 nonprofit organizations via Network for Good in 2015, the Digital Giving Index opens a window to donors' online giving inclinations. Some key findings:
- Growth in online giving far outpaces growth in overall giving
- Comparing 2015 data to 2014, donations via branded donation pages increased 17% while peer-to-peer giving increased 6%. (Consider avoiding generic donation pages as those donations decreased 28% over that time.)
- 3 in 5 online donations came through nonprofits' donation pages, and 1 in 4 via peer-to-peer giving.
- 29% of 2015 giving took place in December and 11% occurred from December 29 to December 31!
- Donations made on December 31 are on average more than twice the size of gifts any other time of the year (and significantly larger than those provided on Giving Tuesday).
- Thursday was the most popular day of the week for donations, followed closely by Tuesday. The largest donations on average also were on Thursdays.
How can you leverage this data to bolster revenue generated by your year-end, online appeals?
