AMHS Academic Team Wins District Academic Bowl Finals | |
Congratulations to the AMHS Academic Team for their 1st Place finish at the 2024 CCSD Academic Bowl Finals last Thursday, March 14, at the Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies. The victory capped an undefeated season! Many thanks to the team's coaches, Ms. Etikerentse and Ms. Vann, for their leadership with this magnificent team. Pi Day Pep Rally a Highlight of Spirit Week | |
A Pi Day pep rally was a highlight of a fun-filled Spirit Week at AMHS! In addition to teachers, CCSD Superintendent Anita Huggins visited AMHS and took a pie in the face to join in the Pi Day fun. The themes were as follows: Freshmen - Hawaii; Sophomores - America; Juniors - a 70s Nightclub, and Seniors - Mardi Gras & the Bayou. Check out photos on Facebook at this link. Raptors Excel at HOSA Future Health Professionals Challenge | Congratulations to our Raptors who took part in and excelled at the HOSA Future Health Professionals Challenge on Thursday! The following scholars placed in the top 5 of their respective categories: Vanessa Nguyen '26 (Medical Math), Ella Ferguson '26 (Pharmacology), Jennifer Pelic '26 (Healthy Living), and Hanna Ismail '25 (Nutrition). Mr. Perlmutter Recognized by CCSD as a STAR Principal | |

AMHS Principal, Mr. Perlmutter, was honored earlier this week as the 2024 CCSD High School Star Principal. Principals were selected "based on their leadership and work to improve student outcomes and implement strategic change." CCSD Superintendent Anita Huggins led a team from the district in visiting Magnet to present him with the award (and a cookie cake!) on Monday. Congratulations! | |

The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund is accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year! Any student who meets the five straightforward eligibility criteria qualifies for the scholarship. Essays or letters of recommendation are not required, and every student who qualifies WILL receive a scholarship.
With the delay this year with the FAFSA, deadlines have been extended. The Fund expects to announc an update by the end of March. Please contact the fund team if you have any questions and feel free to share this with anyone who might benefit from the Meeting Street Scholarship Fund. Congratulations to Xander d'Arcy '24 of the men's Track & Field team for being the Raptor Athlete-of-the-Week last week. In his nomination of Xander, Coach Johnson said, "Xander has been a great leader for us this year. He leads the Tuesday and Thursday sprint workouts, makes sure everyone has a ride to the track or meets before he leaves campus, and is dependable on the track. He runs multiple events each meet and always does what is asked of him and more." | |

This week's Raptor Athlete-of-the-Week is Ridgeley Kalil '25 of the Girls Soccer team. In his nomination, Coach Alister said, "Ridgeley is a fierce competitor who always gives her all and puts her body (and eye) on the line for the team. Her competitive spirit drives her play on the field." | |

The SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) Outreach Center's summer camps challenge rising 6th - 10th graders in a fun and collaborative environment where hands-on STEM learning is celebrated. Students choose from a variety of topics, empowering them to interact with like-minded peers as they grow as scientists and engineers. GoSciTech offers three types of immersive STEM experiences - residential, day, and virtual - designed to engage and challenge students who are interested in STEM.

Spend Spring Break 2025 in Costa Rica! Raptors are invited to consider this amazing opportunity to explore the ecology of Costa Rica during spring break of 2025. Opportunity for the Class of '27!
Kids On Point is teaming up with Charleston Civil Rights and Civics (C3) for the second year to offer an immersive civil rights experience for high school students completing their freshman year. This year's session is scheduled from June 24 to June 28, 2024. Students will explore key sites in the Lowcountry, delving into our region's history of slavery and civil rights. The program will conclude at the Charleston Board of Elections, emphasizing the importance of the election process, voter registration, and will feature a special graduation ceremony.

REMINDER: 30 Hours of Community Service due by May 1
Parents and students are reminded that all AMHS students should be working toward their 30 hours of community service which will be due on May 1st. Community Service forms are available on the class canvas pages and all of our Study Hall teachers can answer questions about this important school-wide program.

Volunteers are needed for the Walk for Autism on April 27, 2024 from 7 am to 1:30 pm. Any students wishing to volunteer can come for part of the hours or all. If interested in volunteering please contact Rose O'Neal at 843-553-1316 or rrzoneal@hotmail.com
Volunteers will assist in several tasks: setting up tables and tents; manning jump castles, food stations, silent auction tables, merchandise table, ticket sales and at the end of the event breaking down tables and tents along with clean up.
