In our First Reading, From the Book Of
the Prophet Isaiah
Is 62:1-5
The Prophet Hosea had mentioned his own broken marriage as an example of Israel's unfaithfulness to God, later Biblical writers also began to compare the relationship between God and humans with the intimate love of husband and wife. In this reading it is one of Isaiah's disciples who takes up his theme to console the people of his day: As a bridegroom rejoices in his bride so shall your God rejoice in you. He assures them that although past infidelity was punished with defeat and exile to Babylon, God forgives and takes his people back as his spouse.
God's word to you in this passage could be a question: How do you see yourself in relation to God? Is the promised reward or love the main incitement of your Christian life-style? God loves you.
The Responsorial Psalm is that that we put our trust in Jesus because of his love and kindness and that he has done great things for us, so we should be filled with joy and love for him and to be like him
in your self-giving.
In the Second Reading, From the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians
1 Cor 12:-4-11
The setting is the congregation in Corinth, Greece , with an active charismatic movement. Some of its members have been overemphasizing the importance of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of speaking in tongues. Paul stresses that God loves all of us and gives his same Spirit of love to all members, but he respects our individualities. We are different from one another: " There are different workings[ ministries, gifts] but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. "
Accept people as different! Apply this to your family, friends, parish. Loving people only if they want to think exactly the way you do is narrowminded. It is something done in "close societies." Outgrow this!
In the Gospel of Luke
Jn 2:1-11
Jesus reveals his glory and gives us a first inkling of who he is. He assumes the role of the groom by giving wine to the wedding guests.
Remember that in the Christian tradition Christ is related to the Church, all of us, as a groom to his bride. And every Sunday, we share the cup with him in the Eucharistic Celebration, if we partake under both species. "May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit."
