Greetings !
Recently, while updating a group on recent events at TROY School, I came to the realization that, "WOW!" our students have participated in numerous new and exciting activities throughout this second semester! Much of this has been due to our intentional work over the past year to engage more purposefully with our seniors in their final year, assisting them in developing a practical life plan for after graduation.
This year, approximately half of our seniors shared they were interested in attending college as part of their next steps, which typically is not the case at TROY. Thrilled to hear this, we gathered more details from them as to what careers they were interested in pursuing. Armed with this knowledge, staff members eagerly scheduled college visits at two area schools, Manchester University (specifically for their Social Work program) and Ivy Tech Community College. Following the visit to Ivy Tech, their representative reached out to us to share he would be willing to come to TROY to walk our students through the online application process to ensure that if questions arose during the process, he could assist them in navigating the application. Additionally, the representative from Ivy Tech offered to come back to TROY to work with seniors and their parents to complete the online FAFSA form, which is now a requirement for all Indiana graduates. As of today, four of our students have been accepted to Ivy Tech and one is completing requirements to apply to Manchester University.
Alongside these new activities for our senior students, our middle school teachers have established a partnership with the Peabody Public Library to offer weekly STEM programs, featuring Robotics, Coding, and the use of 3D printers. This collaboration has quickly become a favorite activity among both students and teachers, and we have already made arrangements to extend this programming into our next school year.
Soon we will be hosting Prom for our high school students, marking our final days of the year with enjoyable trips to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and Chain O' Lakes State Park, and celebrating with our seniors at Graduation. Venturing beyond our comfort zones this year has been exciting, and we are embracing the journey and the growth it brings. After all, isn't that where the magic happens, just outside our comfort zones!
With Gratitude ~
