ELITE HUNTER PROFILE

CONGRATULATIONS TO

GARY INGERSOLL

FOR HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

AS AN

ELITE HUNTER*

Black Rhino - Kenya

Polar Bear - Alaska

WILD PLACES

Gary Ingersoll’s passion for experiencing wild places led him to the top tier of the hunting world. Born in 1939, he paved a unique path from growing up on a farm in Minnesota to a successful career in real estate development across America that ultimately afforded him over 60 years traveling the world on 330 hunts!

Sloth Bear - Nepal

Blandford Urial – Pakistan

HUNTING THE WORLD

Gary was the 7th hunter to achieve the original “North American 27,” which included Jaguar, Pacific Walrus, and Polar Bear. In 1976, he took his first safari to Kenya, taking 30 species in 35 days including Lion, Leopard, Cape Buffalo, and the last legally hunted (for decades) Black Rhino. He went on to hunt Africa 29 times, and over 50 countries on 6 continents, in a life-long quest for exotic species that included many experiences that no longer exist for a younger generation of hunters.  He may be the only hunter with two Big Fives of Africa to include both a Black Rhino and White Rhino.

Glacier Bear - Alaska

Nubian Ibex - Sudan

RARITIES

Among the rarest species (especially at the time Gary hunted them) are Nile Lechwe, Yellow Back Duiker, and Bongo (Sudan, 1977), Mid-Altai Argali (Mongolia, 1984), Mountain Nyala (Ethiopia, 1985), Sloth Bear and Blue Sheep (Nepal, 1985), Nubian Ibex (Sudan, 1985), Nilgai Antelope (Nepal, 1986), Blandford Urial (Pakistan, 1986), Glacier Bear (Alaska, 1987), Saiga Antelope (Russia, 1990), Blue Sheep (China, 1991), and Tien Shan Argali (Kyrgyzstan, 1995). In 2002, Gary was the first American to hunt Iran since 1978. His getting through Customs is quite a story, and then he successfully hunted Esfahan Mouflon and Red Sheep.

Marco Polo (and 3 Wolves) – Tajikistan

Esfahan Mouflon - Iran

 HUNTING STORIES

Gary Ingersoll is the author of “Born to Hunt: Forty Years and Six Continents.” It is a memoir of his favorite hunting stories. He dreamed of taking his children and 5 grandchildren to Africa; a goal he achieved more than once, and that led to his youngest daughter making Africa her second home to operate Hartland Hunting Safaris, a hunting and photographic safari company in Namibia.
