2022 Legislative Session Update

The 2022 Legislative Session was Representative Maney's second session in Tallahassee and his most successful to date. He successfully ushered six policy bills and one claims bill through the House and Senate that were signed by the Governor. He also secured over $19 million dollars for District 4 and it's communities.

Some of the highlights include:

$11,000,000 for NWFSC to renovate and expand the building that houses their nursing program.
$325,000 for the Okaloosa-Walton Mental Health and Substance Pre-trial Diversion program.
$1,000,000 to upgrade Mary Esther's sewer system infrastructure.
$750,000 to clean up and fix the flooding issues for the Overbrook area in Okaloosa County.
$1,500,000 for traffic improvements on Lewis Turner Blvd.
$300,000 for a water quality improvement project in Cinco Bayou

Bills Passed

The focus of several of Rep. Maney's bills was aimed at removing red tape from typically bureaucratic processes and easing the tax burden for Floridians. Some examples include HB 381, HB 223, and HB 387. A full list of bills and appropriation projects from 2022 can be found here.

Rep. Maney sponsored HB 873, a bill that shields the identities of companies that sell the lethal cocktail used to execute condemned prisoners by the State of Florida. This bill sparked debate on the House floor but Rep. Maney was able to draw a clear distinction between the death penalty itself and the statutory obligation that the State of Florida has to carry it out.

22/23 Budget

Freedom First Budget

The Governor signed Florida's $99 billion budget early in June. The Governor vetoed over $3 billion from the budget, giving Florida a reserve fund of over $15 billion for any unforeseen incidences that may arise. The budget includes tax holidays for fuel, back to school supplies, disaster preparedness, and others. You can read all about it by clicking on the Freedom First Budget graphic.

Homeowners Insurance Legislation

The Governor called the Legislature back into session at the end of May to introduce legislation aimed at curbing the sky-rocketing rates for homeowners insurance. You can see the high-level impacts it will have at the link below.

District Visits

Since session ended, Rep. Maney has made it a priority to meet and talk with community leaders, business owners, educators, and more.

We were proud to host representatives from NASA and Boeing and have them tour NWFSC and the HSU Foundation's facilities, in an effort to promote the STEM education efforts that are ongoing here in Okaloosa County and a priority of Governor DeSantis.

Okaloosa Correctional Institution, Okaloosa County Jail, and the Juvenile Detention Center
Florida A&M's Pharmacy School in Crestview
University of West Florida
Eglin and Hurlburt AFB
Doolittle Institute
Okaloosa School District's new Health Academy
Numerous public events as well as Chamber of Commerce and Republican Club meetings

We would encourage members of the public to look into the FAMU Pharmacy program in Crestview, as well as the Nursing program provided by the Okaloosa County School District.
