This is just one of the ways the Council and its members were able to G.I.V.E. (Gift, Impact, Value, and Elements) in 2021.
GIFT. The Gift that keeps giving is the 5 HUBZone Interns placed by the Council’s HUBZone Workforce Connection.
  • Bernard Harris III
  • Eric Richman
  • Masaio Suaray
  • Michaela Miller
  • Nykolas Hinton

The Council partners with HUBZone community leaders and Universities to generate internship opportunities. Enfield Enterprises Inc. (EEI) was the first company to sponsor this initiative. They understood the importance of generating impactful internship opportunities by
ensuring students are paired with companies interested in shaping and preparing them for future opportunities.

For over 30 years, EEI has been making a difference in underserved communities by training and employing people. Their expertise covers many aspects of government and commercial contracting with core competencies in General Construction, Vertical and
Horizontal Construction, Environmental, Site Work, Roofing, Renovations, Restorations, Classified Security Projects, and FEMA Disaster Response. EEI has completed engagements in the hundreds of millions of dollars for various agencies including the Army Corp of Engineers, Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, General Services Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

IMPACT. In 2021, the Council stood up a 501(c)(3) focused primarily on Workforce Development. This new organization is chaired by Kindra Harvey. She has led grassroots efforts with Economic Development Commissions all over the nation including tribal organizations. Ms. Harvey is currently working on a strategic plan to bring this same level of success to the Council. The Council believes that the COVID pandemic has provided greater opportunity for diversity and inclusion in the workforce. The 501(c)(3) is prepared to exploit that workforce gap for our members by assisting HUBZone businesses with securing the type of workforce they need to remain competitive in the federal marketplace by creating customized recruiting strategies.
VALUE. The program has already developed a strong following. Members are able to access the Council’s Portal to find HUBZone full and part-time employees. Employees that have indicated their interest by specialty, location (onsite/off-site), and certifications. This effort develops career pathways for unemployed and underemployed HUBZone residents to middle or high skilled occupations while providing opportunities for job seekers in remote regions to connect with employers operating in the Federal sector. Additionally, it assists HUBZone businesses with securing the type of workforce they need to remain competitive in the federal marketplace.
ELEMENT. The Coordinator (Angela Nguyen) of the Workforce Connection works to ensure students are paired with companies interested in shaping and preparing them for future opportunities. The Workforce Connection provides HUBZone job seekers all over the nation a path to challenging and sustainable employment. It begins by helping our
company members in knowing where—and how—to search for the right talent. Once the member has a clear understanding of the skills required for their positions the Coordinator scours the job seeker database to find worthy candidates. When necessary, she reaches out to our university partners to increase the pool of appropriate candidates.

The Coordinator is always seeking more volunteers and sponsors if you are committed to mitigating HUBZone employment disparities, please support the Workforce Connection in leveling the playing field for the underserved communities workforce@hubzonecouncil.org.
