This week's newsletter focuses on our funding of experiential opportunities for children, adults, and families affected by cancer, a GFC legend, and a 'Then and Now' look at the staff behind the mission.

As you read and learn more, remember, none of this would be possible without each and every member of the Golf Fights Cancer community!

Golf Fights Cancer's community of supporters knows that fighting cancer is HARD! Treatment and recovery can take years, affecting every aspect of a patient's life. Often overlooked is the impact a cancer diagnosis has on the entire family - parents, caregivers, siblings, and children.

Focused on providing support across the cancer journey for the entire family, GFC has directed more than $1.5 Million in grant funding to programs offering access to free experiential activities to family members and patients of all ages - creating cherished memories, building resilience, and strengthening families.

Keep reading for a quick snapshot of GFC's impact:

Camp Boggy Creek

It was a beautiful weekend for 32 families affected by pediatric cancer at Camp Boggy Creek's March 2024 Family Retreat Weekend.

Camp sprang to life with laughter, camp cheers, dancing, and friendship! During the weekend, parents, siblings, and caregivers participated in a variety of activities including, archery (a camp favorite!), mini golf, horseback riding, arts & crafts, and fishing.

Most importantly, families experienced a break from cancer and the opportunity to meet others facing the same hardships and challenges.

“We want to THANK YOU for letting us come to camp this past weekend The amount of love we received was out of this world. The support from our pal Emily, the medical team, and other parents was incredible. We met extremely nice people and we're sure we are going to build long-term relationships with each one of them. Camp Boggy Creek has a wonderful community and we're happy to say we're not as scared as we were before camp and we're sure our little girl will thrive and be a happy human being just like any other kid.” - Karen, Lissette, and Noa

Lucy's Love Bus

It is pretty hard being a teenager - imagine being a teenager with cancer!

Golf Fights Cancer is proud to be the inaugural sponsor of Lucy’s Love Bus's Teen Group Program.

Launched in November, the program is filling a significant need in Massachusetts where funding for teen/young adult resources is limited.

Run by professionals with significant experience with this population, the program provides teens, caregivers, and siblings affected by a pediatric cancer diagnosis the chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar challenges, as well as to enjoy unique experiences rooted in empowering activities that help bolster mental health.

Apryle Showers

Sometimes it’s a challenge to put into words how impactful a 'break' or change of scenery can be in the lives of individuals and families facing cancer.

A GFC grant beneficiary since 2018, the Apryle Showers Foundation provides personal, beachside recovery retreats for individuals ages 30-55 currently undergoing treatment for cancer in the greater Jacksonville area.

An opportunity to heal and create cherished memories is vital during, what for many, is the darkest time in their life.

“I can’t thank you enough for my weekend getaway at Amelia Island. To have a weekend away and not think about the stress of my daily battles balancing life and worrying about my cancer prognosis was truly a gift. I was able to sleep in, laze on the beach and read, look for shark's teeth (a favorite activity of mine that I don’t typically get to do because I’m playing with my children), and not worry about meals (or anything, really!). There is no way I could have afforded a weekend like this, and I’m humbled by your generosity. I feel rested and refreshed, something I haven’t felt in almost a year. I feel like me again." - Danielle

Our Grant History

In the dictionary next to the word 'beloved,' there should be a picture of Glenn Kelly.

A 17-time GFC Golf Marathoner, Glenn has raised close to $250,000 in honor/memory of many friends and family members impacted by cancer - truly incredible!

A mentor to hundreds (probably closer to thousands) of young golfers and future golf professionals, Glenn recently announced his retirement after 40 years as the Head Golf Professional at Woods Hole Golf Club.

Golf Fights Cancer is blessed to call him FAMILY 💚
