This week's newsletter focuses on the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis, a GFC hero who's been involved since day one, and a 'Then and Now' look at GFC's Golf Marathon.

As you read and learn more, remember, none of this would be possible without each and every member of the Golf Fights Cancer community!

Research over the last 10 years has shown that between 30% and 70% of cancer patients delay medical care, go without care, or make changes in their cancer treatment because of cost. This devastating reality affects families of all socio-economic backgrounds - threatening long term heath outcomes and quality of life for patients and caregivers.

Since inception, Golf Fights Cancer has distributed more than $1 Million in grant funding to leading non-profits in New England and Florida addressing the financial burden of cancer, allowing patients to focus on what's most important - their treatment and health!

Keep reading for a quick snapshot of GFC's impact through our grant making this year:

“My case manager helped me in a time when I needed it the most, she was delightful through it all. The DONNA Foundation played a pivotal role in connecting me with valuable resources and support networks within the cancer community. They went above and beyond their responsibilities to ensure that I had access to all the necessary services and guidance required. Their unwavering commitment to care, their genuine compassion, and their ability to uplift the spirits of those they serve have been instrumental in my healing and recovery.” Helen

GFC is a proud sponsor of The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund's 2024 Adults' Night Out series.

In addition to providing parents and caregivers of pediatric cancer patients a night out and the opportunity to connect with others facing the same challenges, the Adults' Night Out Series provides financial literacy training and coaching to manage the challenges of childhood cancer.

The Joe Andruzzi Foundation allowed us to be able to travel back and forth from northern Vermont to Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Boston for treatment more than 40 times without worrying about fuel, food, and overnight hotel costs. We were able to better focus on the challenge in front of us and my wife was able to accompany me on every trip and be with me throughout the whole process. At a very stressful point in our lives the support and help that JAF provided, in such a caring way, I believe was a major contributor to my ability to get through this. At my lowest point, I realized that the support of family, friends, and donors would be the difference between beating this or giving in.” – Jay

Our Grant History

⬆️ AMAZING! In addition to his work in support of pediatric cancer patients and families, Camilo Villegas is currently representing Columbia at the 2024 Paris Olympics! ⛳

Eric Baldwin, known as 'Baldy' to many, is not comfortable with attention or accolades. A founding Board Member of Golf Fights Cancer, he has been a committed leader and supporter our mission for over 20 years!

Quietly working behind the scenes to ensure a strong infrastructure in support of our mission, Baldy has played a significant role in GFC's historical impact on hundreds of thousands of cancer patients and families.

In addition to his role as Vice President of our Board of Directors, Baldy has pushed his body to the limit as a 2021 member of Team GFC's Boston Marathon Team and in this year's The Donna Half Marathon, raising $40,000 in support of patients and families impacted by cancer. Hero seems like a perfect label to us!

First held in 2009 at Stowe Acres Country Club, GFC's Annual New England Golf Marathon truly captures the 'Then and Now' growth trajectory across our community.

The top photo showcases the 25 golfers who raised more than $40,000 for our mission in 2009. Compare that to the 130 golfers featured in the bottom two photos who participated in the 2024 Golf Marathon in June at Juniper Hill Golf Course.

Held over two days due to the increased number of participants, this year's event raised an incredible $925,000 benefitting 13 non-profits!

The Golf Marathon is coming to Jacksonville, Florida!

Scheduled for Friday, November 22nd at Blue Sky Golf Club, the 2024 JAX Golf Marathon is an event not to be missed. This unique event is perfect for anyone who loves golf and hates cancer!
