Caregiver Month Special: Discover, Create, and Connect
Let's come together to honor the dedication and resilience of our caregivers!
|
|
May is Caregiver Awareness Month
During the month of May, Canada celebrates National Caregiver Month, honouring the dedication of over 8+ million individuals who provide care to family members, friends, and neighbours.
May is dedicated to recognizing the invaluable role of caregivers in our communities. Creating awareness about caregiving is vital as it sheds light on the challenges they face and the support they need. By raising awareness, we can foster understanding, empathy, and action to ensure caregivers receive the recognition, resources, and respite they deserve. Let's stand together to honor and support caregivers not just this month, but every day

We have invited our Caregivers to share their journeys with us.
" As a caregiver, I feel a lot of pressure, but since joining the caregiver program, I feel more relaxed and calm. I can bring positive energy back home now. The person I care for can even participate and be more joyful. This program has made a big difference for us. Thank you very much. "
By Joanne Ho - Caregiver
I retired early from my teaching career to care for my dementia mother. It's been eight years, at the beginning of this journey my feelings were full of anxiety, frustration and stress. One day I realized I needed to seek help, then I got connected with RCRG Caregiver Hub. I participated in all the activities in person, then online during the epidemic. I learned at the Caregiver Hub, I need to take care of myself and maintain my interest first before I am able to care for other people. For a retired teacher I also feel valued because I am able to teach other caregivers in the workshops at the Richmond Family and Friend Caregiver Hub.

To all the caregivers, thank you for your unwavering dedication and compassion. Your selflessness is a beacon of light, inspiring others in their own caregiving journeys. Remember, you are not alone, and your efforts are deeply appreciated. Take moments to care for yourselves, too, as you continue to uplift and support those around you.

Social Connection & Healthy Aging
Staying connected for better health
Growing older brings many transitions. Older adults may face feelings of social isolation or loneliness that can have an impact on their mental or physical health. But this isn’t an inevitable part of aging. Staying connected is important for maintaining mental and physical health as we age.
Please refer to the link for the pamphlet which describes the concept of social isolation and loneliness, its impact and what we can do to stay connected for better health.
