Summer 2024 Chairman’s Internship Opportunity!

Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay is accepting applications for a paid summer internship. Fairfax County residency is recommended.

The intern will assist with a variety of projects, assignments, and public service activities, which may include:

  • Assisting county residents with solving problems and sharing the views of Chairman McKay.
  • Drafting letters and constituent correspondences.
  • Updating lists, such as homeowner association (HOA) contacts.
  • Assisting with updating public websites.
  • Researching local small businesses, plan, and outreach to advertise summer events.  
  • Route phone calls and issues to appropriate staff member.
  • The intern should be interested in learning about local government and is able to work independently and with a team.

Preferred skills include:

  • Familiarity with Fairfax County
  • Effective writing and verbal communications
  • Researching and reporting results
  • Technical skills such as: Excel, Microsoft Word, Canva, and databases

The intern will be expected to work 30 hours/week, with weekly schedules negotiable. Chairman’s Office operating hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Start and end dates are negotiable but will generally track with the student’s summer break or summer semester calendar.
