May 29, 2024, Stanardsville, VA, USA- The International Insolvency Institute (III) will convene its 24th Annual Conference in Singapore, June 10-11, 2024. The Annual Conference is the premier international insolvency conference for practitioners, academics, and members of the judiciary. The III will recognize its 2024 award recipients during the conference's Legendary Dinner. The III Outstanding Contributions Award honors a person who reflects prominent, distinguished, and exceptional service to the field of insolvency and to the insolvency community; the Founder's Award is bestowed to a member who, through their efforts over the years, has made a substantial contribution to further the goals, mission, and work of the International Insolvency Institute. Dr. Janis Sarra-2024 Outstanding Contributions Award Dr. Sarra is Professor of Law Emerita at the University of British Columbia and Principal Co-investigator of the Canada Climate Law Initiative, previously serving as Associate Dean of the Law Faculty. She held the title of UBC Presidential Distinguished Professor, 2014 to 2019, and is Distinguished University Scholar. She was founding Director of the National Centre for Business Law, and was Director of Wall Institute for Advanced Studies, the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, the International Insolvency Institute, and the Canadian Insolvency Foundation. She is currently a Director of Assuris, and member of the Canadian Delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law WG V (UNCITRAL) and the UNIDROIT International Working Group on Bank Insolvency, having served also on working groups such as the World Bank Insolvency and Creditors Rights Task Force on Insolvency of Non-Bank Financial Institutions. She is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario. Her more than 125 publications and 14 books have been cited in more than 250 insolvency law judgments. Her most recent books include: Financial Institutions in Distress, Recovery, Resolution, Recognition, co-authored with Davis et al (OUP 2023); From Ideas to Action: Governance Paths to Net Zero (OUP, 2020); Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Insolvency: A Modular Approach, co-authored with Davis et al (2018); and the Annotated Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, (Thomson Reuters, 2024).

Hon. Martin Glenn-2024 Founder's Award

Judge Glenn was sworn in as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of New York on November 30, 2006. He was appointed Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York on March 1, 2022. He received his B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1968 and his J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School in 1971. He was an Articles Editor of the Rutgers Law Review. Judge Glenn was a law clerk for Hon. Henry J. Friendly, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, from 1971-72. From 1972 until his appointment to the bench, Judge Glenn practiced law with O’Melveny & Myers LLP, in Los Angeles from 1972-85 and in New York from 1985-06. Judge Glenn is a member of the American Law Institute; International Insolvency Institute; New York Federal-State Judicial Council; New York City Bar; National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges; and American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a past member of the Committee on International Judicial Relations of the United States Judicial Conference, and of the Bankruptcy Judge Advisory Group of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Judge Glenn is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Law School and a Contributing Author of Collier on Bankruptcy. He is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy-related issues.
