Alberta Chambers of Commerce Priorities Set

at 2024 AGM & Policy Plenary

Edmonton — Delegates from local chambers across Alberta adopted 22 policy resolutions to advocate with the provincial and federal governments during the Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) annual general meeting in Red Deer on May 25, 2024.

Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce President, Mike Szyszka, was pleased to host this years event, "We are thrilled to host the Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM and Conference in our vibrant city of Red Deer. Chambers play vital leadership roles in their communities, and this event provides an invaluable opportunity for us to come together, collaborate, and support each other. By networking, learning and sharing, we can continue our mission to strengthen our business communities across Alberta."

The annual Policy Plenary session is a highlight of the ACC AGM. Policy recommendations put forward address issues ranging from electricity supply solutions, to bolstering emerging industries and the environment. ACC President and CEO Shauna Feth says the priorities of business leaders are reflected in the policy recommendations put forward by community chambers.

Premier Danielle Smith brought greetings to the chamber network, congratulating the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce on their 130th Anniversary

"Our advocacy activity is based on insights from small, medium and large business in every industry across Alberta. Chambers of commerce engage with their local business community consistently and hear first hand the needs of their members, " says Feth, "Chambers of commerce are the drivers of grassroots movements, which separates us from other business associations. We are focused on amplifying what we hear from our businesses when we engage with government at all levels."

Feth noted that the high level of engagement of 35 local chambers in Red Deer signals a strong voice for business in the coming months and years.

Jodie McFadzen, who will Chair ACC for 2024-2025, oversaw the policy process as Policy Committee Chair for the past year. "These approved policy recommendations are all about supporting businesses and tackling key issues that matter to them. Chambers of commerce play a crucial role in our community, pushing these policies forward and making sure businesses have the support they need."

Cindy Park, Vice President, External Relations for Northwestern Polytechnic, was welcomed to the ACC Executive Committee as Treasurer for 2024 - 2025. ACC Past President from Lethbridge, Bruce Galts, stepped down and was thanked for his dedication serving on the ACC executive.
