Exciting News for the New Year

From our President:

Stamford Cradle to Career would like to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy start to 2023. We, along with our community partners have lots to look forward to this year. First, we’d like to announce our 2023 SC2C Annual Convening Series "Stamford Unites", which will include events for students, parents and caregivers as well as hosting fellow non-profit and community agencies in Stamford. We are very excited to offer an opportunity to share the thoughts and ideas of students and families with our community. This collaborative work allows us to continue to help improve outcomes for all youth in Stamford to help them succeed in education, career, and life.

The residents of Stamford are fortunate to have several opportunities to acknowledge the humanitarian contribution of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day of action is a great way for our entire community to reflect upon practices of equity and providing greater access to all students and families.

Just weeks before his death in 1968, Dr. King launched a Poor People’s Campaign in an effort to gain economic justice. He gave a speech in Detroit called “The Other America” where he addressed the connection between inequality in jobs and justice. “The most critical problem in the other America is the economic problem. By the millions, people in the other America find themselves perishing on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity…”.

Our partners in the Boys and Girls Club continue to work hard to counter this opportunity gap and are hosting an upcoming Financial Literacy for Students and a Free College Admission & Financial Aid Workshop. A host of information regarding student loans, school choice, saving strategies as well as scholarship opportunities will be shared. As part of our efforts to ensure food equity, our team is also conducting SNAP Trainings in English and Spanish in January and February.

We anticipate a great year!
