Dear Alumni and Friends,

With another year winding down and the holiday season upon us, many of us will shift our focus to the company of those we care about most deeply – our friends and family. As members of the University of Michigan family, I wish you all a joyful season and health and happiness in the new year.

More importantly, I want to sincerely thank you all – not only for the warmth you’ve shown me and my family in welcoming us to this community, but also for your unwavering support and commitment to this great institution over the past year.

As we look to 2023, I’m proud to share that the University of Michigan is thriving.

Across our three campuses, more than 65,000 students are pursuing their academic goals and earning their degrees in a wide breadth of disciplines.

At Michigan Medicine, our health care professionals have handled more than 2.6 million patient clinic visits in the last year.

The university’s research activity in the last fiscal year included $1.7 billion in research expenditures and generated 433 new inventions and 16 startup companies, ranging in scope from genetic data accessibility to internet interfaces for the visually impaired.

Our School of Information recently announced it will offer two master’s degree programs tuition-free beginning next fall for full-time students who were awarded the Go Blue Guarantee grant as undergraduates.

And to close out the year, our football team will play in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve with a very real shot at a national championship.

What an incredible privilege it is to be a part of this vibrant community dedicated to excellence.

I hope you also share in this pride and join me in looking forward to all that we can accomplish together in the new year.

Go Blue!
