Following this week’s Florida Building Codes Structural TAC Committee meeting, we wanted to provide you with an update on the discussions regarding proposed code changes.
The intent of the meeting was to support the proposed FHBA Glitch fixes to reverse the Expanded Windborne Debris Region and address the Soffit Installation issue.
Regarding the Windborne Debris Region, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) determined the issue failed to meet the definition of a Glitch, but agreed it had technical merit and should be considered by the Code Commission Board. This process requires a 45-day comment window. Of note, there has been expressed opposition from an influential Commission member to change anything related to ASCE 7. Rest assured, there is ongoing efforts to address this concern.
As for the soffit issue, the TAC acknowledged it as not a "Glitch" and has requested collaboration between FHBA and the Vinyl Siding Institute to discuss and bring a consensus resolution to the next TAC meeting.
We will keep you posted as we continue to address these issues.
Thank you for your attention to these matters, and we look forward to keeping you informed as we navigate through these proposed changes together.
Best regards,
Mike Keesee & Carl Brown
