Volunteer Update
January 31, 2020
|
|
Dear CRC Supporter,
A new year can come with new anxieties and new lists of to-do’s and resolutions we intend to keep. Whether 2020 fills you with worry or with excitement, with dread or with hope, one thing is certain; Everyone can make choices this year that make a difference.
A lead volunteer for our Food Pantry sent me a poem she wrote last week,
and it really resonated with me. She beautifully describes the need to hold on to hope, to see beauty in the midst of the storm, to learn to celebrate differences and to share compassion with others.
Our goal this year for our CRC Volunteers? That you recognize the value you bring and the positive change you can make for your neighbors in need. Whether an hour or a year of service,
you CAN make a difference!
Warmly,
Sara Rosenbaum
CRC Volunteer Manager

ProduceGood
’s website states their mission to
“build an active and engaged community committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger, reclaim and repurpose waste and promote the health and well-being of all.”
ProduceGood
was founded in 2014 and has partnered with CRC since 2018.
After receiving one delivery per month since our partnership began, January 2020 marks the start of a second delivery per month!
How it Works:
Generous farmers who are vendors at a farmers market have previously agreed to give
ProduceGood
their whole, unsold produce at the conclusion of the market.
They are not required to donate at every market, and sometimes they have none unsold, or choose to take their produce back to their farm for other purposes, but farmers are increasingly seeing the results of the giving and are excited about the idea of feeding people with their unsold vegetables and fruit.
This partnership provides a place for unsold local, fresh and seasonal produce to be distributed to those who come to our Food Pantry.
It is a win-win situation for farmers and those in need!

Congratulations
Christine Maciulla!
January Volunteer of the Month
Christine is a lead volunteer in our Food Pantry and oversees a team of hard-working volunteers on Thursday mornings. She began seven years ago this May as a volunteer and soon after was “promoted” to Lead Volunteer.
Christine is an incredible team player, a compassionate advocate for CRC and those we serve, and always has a smile, even when faced with a giant load of vegetables to sort and short-handed on help.
When asked one reason she volunteers, Christine replied “I love that perhaps I am making someone’s life a little bit better if just for one day.”

Employer-funded grants help CRC
CRC relies on Grant Funding to provide nearly 17 percent of its income each year. Many Corporate
Grants are only available
when the organization is nominated by an employee
.
In 2020, can you make it a goal to check your employer to see if they offer grants? If they do, please consider making CRC your recipient and contact Richard Radosh, Development Grants Manager at CRC (
rradosh@crcncc.org
).
CRC would welcome the opportunity to apply for grants from these generous corporate citizens to support CRC’s core programs providing safety, stability and self-sufficiency to low income individuals and families in north county San Diego. Thank you!

|
If you have a good story of volunteering, please share with me at
srosenbaum@crcncc.org
. I can include those stories in future newsletters as an encouragement to our team.
