Good Afternoon St. Stephen families,
I hope everyone continues to enjoy the summer and is staying healthy. Please read the letter from the Superintendent, Christopher Pastura, regarding the ongoing efforts to prepare for the opening of school. Here are the links for the
English version
and
Spanish version
. The letter describes the three models we are looking at for opening the school. The hybrid model would be necessary if we need to limit the number of students in a classroom at one time. Our local preparations include making sure we have the technology to live stream for students with health concerns who may not be able to attend school temporarily and a sufficient number of devices if we need to send some home for virtual learning. We are also working with our cleaning company as our cleaning needs will increase to include more sanitizing and washing floors since students will eat in their classrooms at the start of school. We have already purchased Personal Protection Equipment and thermometers for each classroom and continue to look at other products we may need to purchase.
The letter from the Superintendent talks about local task forces. Once we return on July 6 after our summer break, we will be looking to put together a team to help with back-to-school preparations. If you work in a health profession (both medical or mental health) or other area that relates to preparing for a safe return to school and wish to serve on this Task Force, please contact Gina Robles grobles@sscsfl.org and share your expertise and how you could be of assistance.
I am happy to announce that we are able to provide a summer Reading program to K-5 students who struggled in this area during the 2019-20 school year. All students were given individual summer work and if your child's teachers encouraged practice in the area of reading, this program may be something you want to consider. This program is FREE to our students who were in K-5 during the 2019-20 school year. There are only 102 spots available among 3 schools offering the program and students will be enrolled on a first-come basis. Each class will hold 6 students and all safety protections will be in place. Please see the

Peace and Blessings,
Linda Umoh
