Who is that Face?
Still panting and wiping his face after crossing the last finish line, Rodrigo Dos Santos was marveling at what his body had just accomplished - especially since he does not consider himself an "ultrarunner".
"It's amazing what the human body is capable of. I had no idea," he said. "I'm amazed at what my body was able to do."
Dos Santos and his wife came to their first TransRockies Run with a group of four friends from the British Virgin Islands, which was pulverized by back to back hurricanes a year ago. Along with still working to rebuild and regain a sense of normalcy, Dos Santos also had to watch his good friend Richard go through chemotherapy for cancer. He celebrated his one year anniversary of the end of treatment this past Wednesday - by summiting Hope Pass.
"It's been a really tough year, " he sighed. "They are more than friends, they are like family. So, we all went through that with him."
But here they are, "Accomplishing amazing things and smashing it."
"If you really want to experience out there," he went on, gesturing to the forest, "there's no other way to do it. You don't have to be the fittest guy on earth to do this. You can finish. You see incredible people finishing everyday."
