EDUCATION SESSION #897
Fracking: Searching for Cracks in the System
Some say fracking is the solution to America’s energy independence and thus a key driver of future economic growth. As you may know, fracking is the process of injecting high-pressure water into shale rock to open fissures and then extract the underlying pools of oil or gas. However, this highly capital intensive industry may represent a looming debt crisis, due to the low interest rate environment that led to the boom in fracking.

Bethany McLean, author of Saudi America: The Truth about Fracking and How It's Changing the World, will share her insights into the economics of the fracking industry and its geopolitical impact. She will address the prospect of returns on the enormous capital investment required to mobilize fracking ventures.

At this lunch, you will learn about this fascinating issue from an investigative journalist who has previously analyzed Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the mortgage industry post-financial crisis, and also Enron. Bring your questions regarding fracking investment opportunities and the anticipated repercussions of a potential fracking financial crash.
