The 2018 Bavencoff Meursault Blanc has arrived. 2018 Burgundy saw extreme heat, lack of rainfall, and struggling vines that produced concentrated fruit; all of which points to one of Burgundy’s greatest vintages. To top it off there was no hail in 2018 so the crop is large along with the wine being outstanding. This will be a vintage to load up on.
Bavencoff is quickly becoming one of our best value to mid-range Burgundy producers. For those of you that are Rhone valley lovers, the situation here is the same as with Xavier Vins in the Rhone. Yvan Bavencoff is an Oenologist in Burgundy working with many producers and vineyards, his job gave him access to inside knowledge which in turn helped him to select the best available fruit.
The wines are focused and true to their regions while maintaining the ability to drink well above their price points.
Tasting Notes:
Meursault shows a green golden color, leaning towards bronze as it ages. Limpid and brilliant, it exhibits silver highlights. The young wine is redolent of toasted almonds and hazelnuts in a floral and mineral (flint) setting. Butter, honey, and citrus fruits are also present. On the palate it is rich and fat with a cheerful and appealing taste of hazelnut.
